Damaged item

Sold an item, buyer recd it but it was damaged. I gave full refund via paypal, how do i cancel the sale on ebay in order to get my selling fees refunded without ebay doing another paypal refund automatically.

You should not refund through paypal

The buyer opens a not as described dispute and you refund through the dispute

Too late now and as you say if you try to cancel after the refund you are asked by ebay to refund

If the seller escalates to ebay then they will do it and come for the money from you

Contact ebay and tell them you have already refunded the money

When you refund through paypal you are left with the fees and a defect on your account

All disputes should be done through the Resolution centre
