Customs charges from UK to NZ

Whay do I have to pay such high customs charges on used goods from the Uk ?

If we buy items from overseas we have to pay customs too.

So if we bought from NZ then we would be responsible for our own customs

The customs are a charge by your country when the item reach NZ 

It is up to the buyer to know the customs duties for their own country when importing

Never had to do this before on USED items ever

Have the items arrived in NZ. If they have and you are being charged customs then you need to look at your own countries Customs rules.
