Custom import tax (Import C.O.D. (ICOD) charges are due for this shipment.)

Hi guys i recently bought a Trading card for aprox $500 just under £400 from USA. all was going well untill i got a notification to pay an import charge -> message "

• Import C.O.D. (ICOD) charges are due for this shipment."

 The charge was £223!! i was shocked due to it only been a small package i cant understand. Im new to this and i was wondering if there was a way round this? and what to do

There is no way round it, if you import goods from outside the EU you pay the Custom Duty. The Item won't be delivered until you pay the charge.

Ok thanks, I used a debt card to pay for the item rather than Paypal, is that upto the seller for a refund or could I also be Liable for a return charge aswell!

All Card Payments are processed through PayPal. I believe that RM Collect the Duty from you, they also charge you an admin Fee. They simply won't deliver if you do not pay. Check Custom Duty on HMRC Web Site.

if you refuse to pay the charge, the seller doesn't have to refund you, so you will lose the item and your money, you need to pay up.
