Yep, that sounds about right.
If the seller issued you with a cancellation request citing ... buyer requests to cancel, this refunds them their seller fee, and does not give them that damaging defect on their account.
You can if you wish, contact eBay CS from the Help & Contact tab above, and dispute this, saying it was not so, you did not agree to the cancellation, and those above sanctions will be applied.
It does not take too many defects to close a Private seller's account down permanently. eBay do not like unhappy buyers.
