Why can't I cancel a request for a refund after receiving a replacement

You should be able to do that if you go back to the dispute the option should be there.

If you can not and you do not take any more action on the case then it will time out in the sellers favour.

There was no dispute lodged so cannot go there

The request to cancel is the dispute/case. You go back to the cancellation request.
