I have listed an expensive piece of jewellery on ebay, an engagement ring valued at £7,500 with a starting bid of £2000. I have had an offer of £2,500 which I said I was willing to accept and have ended the auction. The potential buyer has emailed me saying they are buying it as a gift for their son?? and wants me to send it abroad to where he is studying. I have no details for them other than their ebay user name and an outlook email address. They are apparantly now sorting out the paypal payment and will get back to me regarding postage. I asked before giving out paypal details where the ring is being sent to as I have reservations about sending it abroad. I'm concerned that I am going to be had here, could anyone please give me some advice on what to do?
Thanks.
You must only send it to the address given in paypal. The buyer must add the overseas address to paypal, and select it at checkout. Send this item with the highest possible insurance. Check that the payment is actually in your paypal account - don't just believe the email you get as this is a common scam.
You should not have to give your paypal details. The buyer can pay by clicking buy.
Personally I would tell the buyer that you will only post to them personally to a UK address and he can send it to his son himself. The fact that this buyer is "mucking about" would set alarm bells ringing.
All things considered, as he has not yet paid I would cancel the transaction and run a mile. Add him to your blocked bidder list.
