Adding Return Item Tracking

I am returning an item using my own courier choice, rather than via eBay. How do I manually mark the item as discpatched and add the tracking numer?

The instruction eBay give are:

  1. Go to the return request in Purchase History.
  2. Select the postage carrier from the dropdown list. If you select 'Other', enter the carrier name.
  3. Enter the tracking number.
  4. Select Mark as sent.

HOWEVER, there is no postage carrier dropdown list.

I see several posts asking this question, but no answers. Can anyone confirm how to do this? Thanks!

UPDATE

I contacted eBay Chat, who were unable to add the tracking either. They simply requested I message the seller with my tracking for th record just in case I didn't receive a refund. That way they would be able to step in if a problem arose.

I let my seller know the tracking number of the returned item and recieved a refund the next day, even before the item got back to them.

Thank you for the update.  That's not how we understand it!  I hope that what they suggest works. The problem - as you can see - is that there is no way that eBay can monitor the case for "attempted delivery".  If the seller does refund all well and good; please let us know.

I would be interested to know what ebay does if he does not!
