SO i just put up my very first ebay item and when I look at the T&C, it says Ebay and paypal take 10 and i think 3%? Is this true? I know Ebay is a business but thats really high especially when other websites like Ebid or Gumtree offer free or 2%...Whats going on?
EDIT.. The Ebay charges are really high. I've since posted my ads on other sites for free or 2%. Why is Ebay charging so much commision on sales? It's a really bad business model and now i don't really trust them since their cut is so high. Paypal fee's are acceptable. It's specifically Ebays charges that I have issue with and just wanted to know if there's a button i should have pressed or is this their normal charge? 5% is even high regardless of exposure and ive since seen many posts complaining about the charges. It's just a shame since I would now not use ebay to sell after this unless it was small things. Such a shame
The fees may appear high when you compare with those other sites you mention, however neither of those sites will show your items to as many potential buyers as ebay does.
You do have a choice, nobody has to use ebay, but if they do they agree to the T&Cs and fees as soon as they list their first item for sale.
The paypal fee is for processing the buyer's payment, they are a business and like any business want to make money.
