Not sure if this will make sense, but it lets you put in a comment that is hidden until the reader clicks on it.

So if we were discussing something like a book or a film, and you wanted to put how it ended, but not "spoil" it for folks who didn't want to know, you could put it in a spoiler tag.

At least, that's my understanding of it
