Someone took offence at our ID and reported us, we have 24 hours to change it,
an ID we have had since joining ebay in 2002
an ID that describes our business
an ID that our buyers search for when they want to re-order
An ID that the live chat operative told me was not allowed becacause it contained the word 'cannon' ?
It was reported because the 'reportee' decided it contained the word 'meccano'but if you look closely, it doesn't contain the word 'meccano' at all, so, come tomorrow, mecannoman will be no more, RIP 'mecannoman'

What about the fact they have had that id for 12 years without complaint?

Sorry was just saying why has it taken 12 years for someone to complain that's all, just an observation.

Strange that the account using the actual brand name does not seem to be a problem ?
Maybe it's the member, rather than the ID someone has a problem with.
Very petty IMO.

Mmmm inclined to agree, plenty of others seem to get away with a lot worse.

I for one ,hope that sense can come through in the end.Though i'm afraid i won't hold my breath.
Yep, it was probably him, mecannoman is no more, I have never felt the need to use a posting ID, but this will be the last time I'll post using my current account, The (insert rude word here) has probably reduced our sales even more than ebay have managed.
We have buyers who come back year after year, we have been here since 2002, so a lot of returners. If they search for mecannoman and don't find us that will be another lost sale. I hope he is pleased with himself.
I suggest anyone who has anything even remotely like a brand name in their ID be very wary, he is obviously a very nasty piece of work!

Apparently you cannot have the name of the thing you sell as your ID as you are not allowed to have a brand name as your ID!

When I was buying children's toys a few years ago, I remember seeing a seller called LegoLady (or something very similar). She used to buy and sell - guess what? I wonder if she's still around???
Good if she is - point being, why is Lego in a name allowed (with that spelling), but Mecanno is not (incorrect spelling of Meccano and not containing the word Cannon). It is most perplexing

It's the same old story, if you get reported ebay will do something, if you aren't reported you can carry on as normal.
For some reason, someone with nothing better to do do reported the mecannoman id as containing a brand name, it did not contain a brand name, but that was ignored and the ID had to be changed.

Utterly ridiculous and unfair. I hope that you can persuade them to see sense.

If that wasn't malicious reporting then my richard is a smoked herring.

I hope you like eating smoked herring.
It can only be "malicious reporting" if the bloke what reported it knew that the rule was NOT being broken.
The rule is that you are NOT allowed to have a User Id that is "a term that is similar to, or might be confused with, a third-party's trademark or brand (for example, CocaColaSeller)"
As it is, the rule was broken, otherwise mecannoman wouldn't have had to change his User ID

....and they just so happened to pick on that id.
Members are not supposed to have the word ebay in there id. There are plenty of those about - one of which I know was approved by ebay.
There are id's which contain profanities, id's which are actually web addresses and numerous ones which contain a brand name. Yet they just so happened to pick on that id..........
With all the scamming listings on ebay a do-gooder would be better off reporting the numerous fake car listings. At least that may save some poor person from losing money.
But no, somebody chose to report an id for containing a brand name. Now if it was the brand name owner then I could understand it, but I believe that wasn't the case.

A lot of aggro I know, but is it possible to shoot off a quick email to your most regular customers, so they know how to find you. It would be an awfull shame to lose custom because of someone elses spite.I hope the miserable devils read these boards and see what we all think of them. Good luck.
