having a discussion here about how to say a few words and why an 'r' seems to have snuck into

the way  castle and glasgow are pronounced by tv people

the CWG had me annoyed by all the bbc people

so  how do YOU  say castle?

What I hate is when people say or write ",,,,, should OF ..." or "..... would OF..."  when it should, of course, be HAVE.

I do sometimes wonder if they have had a hearing problem in their formative years or bad teachers / parents who have not done enough to correct them.

I say castle and bath.

I say bath and castle. But then I'm from the Midlands, where we all wear what in Knightsbridge might be known as "flart carps"

I know everyone has different dialects but the one that annoys me the most is a particular Irish dialect, Eamon Holmes must be from that place because he says it and it REALLY annoys me and that's NOY instead of NOW!  Woman Surprised

I think he's a Belfast boy certainly Northern Irish, the Southern Irish have a lovely soft accent, the NI accent often I think sounds aggressive , but the people who speak it are far from it normally!. lol.

I think regional accents & mispronunciation are two different things though. For example saying nuthink for nothing isn't regional it's just pronounced wrongly.

Yes but this whole thread is a mixture of the two.  Baath is a dialect more than mispronounciation isn't it, but of course the aitch v haitch thing isn't nor free instead of three.  That's common in this area, fink and forough.  I was once complimented by my old next door neighbour because both my children called her Mrs Herring (as was her name) but locals called her Mrs Herrin.

I just wish I could get my youngest granddaughter to say reMember instead of reNember!!  Woman LOL

I love the way children mix up words. Amy had Mermerlade for Mermaid, Nasal for Snail & Lemon & Melon were always the wrong way around!
