Re: mdcc

it would be such a shame if it finished, maybe it would be better just to have a couple a year, or maybe 4?

I for one would certainly miss it, it's fun just watching you guys fight when CK or Twishy make something funny.......

....I wonder what happened to Kitten?? she'd never find us now would she...inserts sulky smiley

Re: mdcc

I am on holiday for 2 weeks when MDCC finishes this time so I won't be listing this time round.    I can always bid though and ask the seller to hold on to  it for a couple of weeks before posting.

As Dairy said on the previous page, we are doing very well in 'the other place'.  Nearly £1,000 has been raised for charities since May.

Re: mdcc

Hello, all,

I don't usually post in here, and mainly lurk on bc and sc (though not really any more with the new boards) but I discovered MDCC last auctions, and then came in here to find out more about it.  Now I know about it, I shall be sure to look out for the auctions ever month (if you keep doing them, that is...) - I think the beautiful summer has been really bad for sales in general: I know it must be really disheartening when you're trying to raise money, but I'd urge you not to give up just yet-  I think once the weather goes rubbish again, sales will pick up,  And the new FVFs are rubbish in many categories, but I suspect ebay will weather that ultimately, in the same way it weathered compulsory Pp, DSRs and yearly RM increases.  Plus, people are going to start looking for Christmas presents as we get into the autumn.  And as it's FLW this week, maybe you could raise your start prices a bit (or is there something that they need to start at 99p?) so that you can take advantage of it?

I just think it's so great that you're all raising money for (generally) smaller charities that maybe don't have a big enough turnover to register with the charity commision, so can't benefit from missionfish etc though I know how much hard work goes into your listings, and that many of you spend ages crafting wonderful objects that don't realise a price that's reflects their true value 😞  And I am only one buyer with a limited budget, I know - but maybe you could have a stickied thread on BC/SC so more people know, as I am sure, even in these hard times, people would be happier to support a charity in their shopping, if they could.

Anyway, just some random ramblings - but I think it's a brilliant idea (I really think long, hot summer days has done more to kill trade than anything else) and I am blown away by some of the beautiful things I've seen listed in finished auctions (now I finally learned how to do that!) - so: thank you all 🙂

Re: mdcc

We always used to have a thread on RT as it was them that started MDCC years ago but the posters on there now aren't interested so we gave up.

Re: mdcc

What a lovely post Heff. I only recently found mdcc, and that was through the other charity place, where my personal charity got such a lot of support and in a few months raised hundreds! My mdcc listings can be hit and miss, I think you're right about the weather. Geranne and I are having our hair cut for wigs for children, so I will be listing for that.

Re: mdcc

Spring summer and into Autumn are my totally hectic periods where i get little chance to list anything.  Been particularly busy this year but do think it would be a pity to lose mdcc as it is often the little personal charities that get the benefit.  However it is a bit hypocritical of me to say so as no way will i have anything much to bid and no pennies to buy.

Re: mdcc

Those that are listing this month no worries as E Bay are not charging until the 4th so that will be wednesday so all sales will have ended on the 1st

I dont know why they cant take this discount off the charity items as they are not making this charge for most shop owners only the basic shop owners it seems they are wanting to hit the private seller

If anyone is able to or knows my e mail address can they send me info about this other place

It is going to effect shop owners and business sellers as well but it is going to hit private sellers hard.

I hope that MDCC will survive even if that means it has to evolve in some way,

Re: mdcc

It is only basic shop that are paying out of the shops but then basic shops are getting 200 free listings per month

What is hitting all shop sellers is the power seller unless you offer free postage you are going to lose all your bonus, power seller badge etc so most shop owners are being forced to put their prices up as a base item and offering free postage so again E bay winning as they get their percentage from these sales

Re: mdcc

I don't know about the other place, but if someone could drop a big and easy to guess hint here, I'll check that out too!

I think with all the hoo-haa over the big charities, smaller ones stand to gain - my mother rang me up very irate about certain big bosses, and cancelled her standing orders on the grounds that she doesn't think it's worth giving up a day a month to fund someone else's 6 figure salary (I never realised she didn't know - it touhes tangentially on what I do, so I could have told her ages ago...).  She says she's going to just put more in the pots at the supermarket and on the street instead, where the money can make more of a difference - and I am sure there are a lot like her, so it's a real shame that it's not allowed to promote MDCC on the other boards 😞

Anyway, people, list loads of cool stuff this weekend, please, so I can get my Christmas shopping done nice and early 😄  And good luck to you girls losing your locks for charity: I think that's a brilliant idea, though my hair is so manky after being dyed into oblivion, it's only fit as nesting stuff for birds...

Re: mdcc

hefzi..... someone told me they had sent you a link to 'the other place'.

I know what you mean about starting christmas shopping early..... best to be organised.  We had another cyber booty tonight for gifts and christmas stuff!  We laughed 'til we cried over some Santas............. sorry, I can't tell you any more.  You would have to read the thread yourself!

We have had an update this morning from Sara at Yorkshire Cat Rescue.... she is alive and well - and off on a short break with her DH from tomorrow.  She thanks everyone from MDCC and 'the other place' for continuing to donate to YCR.  They have received a grant from Pets at Home to build a new outdoor pen/space for the cats.  Apparently, it was too cold last year for the strays they had to take in and she doesn't want this year's intake to go through the same.  At one time, there was a 'kitten season' and all her pens were empty over winter.  That isn't the case any more.  YCR is taking litters in all the year round now.

Dairyview is doing great with her Days for Girls sewing.  (I know that ilove2patch is involved with that charity as well).  We send fabric, pants and face cloths - plus donations - to keep Dairy going.  I think she is tied to her sewing machine now.  But her sister is helping to make the bags that the kits go in.

Liz at Chaldon is with us - she does make us laugh with her antics.  She got new clippers for Albi the sheep and we have advised her not to take up hairdressing!  Poor Albi !!!!  Her last purchase was for a wheelbarrow with 2 wheels at the front as she is not to be trusted trundling her one-wheelie barrow any more - she'll crush a nosey cat if she is not careful!   Liz has also managed to have a new internal door fitted to keep the warmth in the chalet whilst the animals play in-and-out at the kitchen door, a shed roof repaired; an agility tunnel has been bought, stools for the elderly cats to jump up on the feeding table....   I am sure that you understand that Liz doesn't get in here very often to thank all the MDCCers.  But she is doing well running Chaldon without Jackie.

We are just starting to think about Biker's Christmas Dinner for the Oldies.  I am hoping that either Biker or Cataquake will 'launch' that appeal in October so that we have time to make and list to raise some money via MDCC.   If you recall, cataquake sent many of us an appeal last year to help to buy the Christmas Dinner and make hampers for the Oldies.  Over the past few years, MDCCers have supplied all the table flowers, table cloths, christmas tree etc.  I am very aware that the Oldies Club had to reduce their outgoing costs by £400 this year - and will have to reduce by ANOTHER £400 next year.  'The other Place' has kept a constant stream of raffle and bingo prizes being sent for the special birthdays.

I am not sure how many of you know about Rainbow Little Cat Rescue Centre - some of you may bought our MDCC items that we listed.  Mary (72 years old) can't believe how she gets a very small income now from MDCC sales.  (About £50 per month)  Kitekats does the on-line buying with the funds we raise and a nice courier man fills her shed with dry food, wet food and cat litter.  Mary is not on the t'internet so she still can't inderstand how money flies down the cable wires and Kitekats can then order food from Pets at Home..... and the nice courier just keeps putting the stuff in her shed!  We are determined that Mary will not go without food herself this year in order to feed the cats.  (She was using her pension to pay for vet bills, food and litter.)

I haven't seen stampingpat or catsinspain for a little while.  I hope they are both okay.

Thank you to all who list and buy in MDCC.  I do hope that it continues.

Just post on here if you want a link to 'the other place'.  All Admin are MDCCers so you request will be seen.

Re: mdcc

I've actually got myself organised this month and already have my items scheduled -
Cuddly monkeys, knitting yarn and a really unusual charm.
Hopefully I'll get some sales this month for The Scoliosis Association.

Good luck to everyone.
I'll have my bidding finger poised tomorrow!
