A hard thing to do. I did it to a big goldfish once & it really upset me.:-(

I'm such a coward that I don't think I could do it. How selfish is that?:_|

tara...you helped that wee birdie...it's tweeting away now with it's other wee deeded pals :-x
12-05-2013 11:49 AM
You did it for the well being of that poor little bird.
My friend cycles to and from work through country lanes and often finds rabbits at the side of the road who have been knocked by a car and he has had to do the necessary to them to end their suffering. He even had to do it to a cat once.
I couldn't do it myself though.

aaww don't be too sad Tara, you did the right thing, it's so hard I know but you wouldnt want it to have suffered.
I remember cycling down the road once, and a wee baby bird in the gutter, everyone said don't move baby birds as their mums are nearby, so I left it. On the way home I saw it...someone had run over it in a car:_| it was years ago and I still feel guilty that I didn't move him.
It's lovely that you thought of him and rescued him.

I gather I'm not allowed to disagree on here then? How petty is that? Sorry, but if I think something is wrong then I will say so.
Anyone finding an injured bird/animal please do the right thing and take it to a vet to be humanly pts...... thank you!
13-05-2013 1:59 PM
I'm sorry if my comments upset Tara but surely I can give my opinion on here if I think something is wrong. How many people have been upset by what she did but know if they disagree they will need botty cream? Of course no animal should suffer but unless you know what you are doing won't cause more distress then please leave it to an expert...... a vet.
My previous post was to inform people of the correct thing to do.

I missed the removed post but will put in my sixpenneth. I love all living things but I would not get the car out & drive all the way to a vets with a wild bird that was obviously on it's last legs. If I couldn't put it out of it's misery myself & would just leave it. I think Tara did a brave & kind thing.
13-05-2013 3:58 PM
I missed the post also...but for what it's worth, tara is one of the nicest, kindest people, & she did exactly the right thing.
It was a wild bird, not a cat or dog, or elephant or panda!
13-05-2013 4:07 PM
Also missed the removed post but agrees that had this been a pet or farm animal I'm quite sure Tara would have used other options available to her but this was a on its last legs, dying wild bird and as such tara did what she beleved to be the kindest thing.
Living in a rural farming community with the nearest vet being a 40 min drive away it is common practice for people round here to put wild life out of it's misery but if it was viable to try and save it's life all efforts would be made to help .

Few years back we found a soddn ball of feathers outside the back door. It allowed OH to pick it up in a towel, cuddled into him whilst he blotted it drier and sat happily on a warm hot water bottle. It was a picture of misery. OH rang a few numbers and was told to just put it back outside to fend for itself!!! After about half an hour it perked up and looked around and a bit later got restless so it was put with a pile of bird food in the shelter under the shrubbery. We never found a body so we assumed it would survive.
Bird Sanctuary, vet and RSPCA didn't want to know so Tara did what was best for the poor thing.

i self reported my posts.
i cradled the starling in a warm towel.... dropped some water into its wee beak... tried to give it a tiny piece of fruit.............stoked its head with my finger.......his eyes closed...... then i did what i had to do quickly
i do have intelligence. so i done what i could do to put the poor thing out of its misery

Would be interested how someone 'arrives' with an ID like that. I have had three slaps today but its worth it. I would actually rather be wrapped in a blanket and hit on the head than have my neck twisted, each to his own I suppose.
