Re: ..and your worst word.....

Oh captain thats my sons favourite word - not he hates it and when we want to wind him up we say 'moist' .

My worst word is nope can't say it it's rude. and it would get bleeped out begins with a c and it sounds awful especially when a woman says it.

Re: ..and your worst word.....

'fit for purpose' - where the heck did that come from?  Drives me nuts when I hear it on the news.  It's political shorthand for 'doesn't work'.

Somethink instead of something. Anythink instead of anything.  Lot's of newsreaders & presenters on tv say it!

Re: ..and your worst word.....

A lot of people don't seem to have the feintest idea of correct

grammar nowadays.  We seem to have turned into a nation of

slovenly speakers and writers.  You would expect speakers

and writers in the public eye/media etc to have an impeccable

command of grammar etc but sadly a lot of them don't.

Re: ..and your worst word.....

Three of the phrases that annoy me are said very often these days by the weather forecast people.  One is 'wall to wall sunshine' another is 'cloud bubbling up' and the third is when they say it's 25 degrees centigrate, that's 77 IN Ferenheight.  What's with the IN, why not just 'That's 77 farenheit'?????

Re: ..and your worst word.....

It annoys me as well when people don't pronounce words properly.  Another word that annoys me is bidded.  There's no such word in the English language as bidded.  Aaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhhhh.

Re: ..and your worst word.....

The name is thought to be derived from Cetecopp meaning 'seat shaped or flat topped hill'; it had its earliest recorded use in 1254.[2] Sidcup originated as a tiny hamlet on the road from London to Maidstone

Re: ..and your worst word.....

I hate swearing, and it seems to be more and more accepted these days.

As Ed stated above, its the C word that upsets me. I detest it with a vengence. We have a driver at work who insists on using it, and every time he says it I tell him again how much it offends me.

It used to be really rare to hear people swearing and now it seem to be every second word you hear! Sad 😞

Re: ..and your worst word.....

Hun, babe & all of the other text speak you see. I've got a niece who continually does it. 4 instead of for, 2 instead of to. As in 'I'm going 2 town 4 sum shoes', drives me mad, she calls her kids 'her lil babes', lil, what the heck is that?
Also, 'innit' (loads of them use that round here),
