Not surprised either! Took everything that was on the ground. Every single pigeon made a bee line for it's coop. They're terrified of these things, and I'm not surprised. They're real killers. A neighbouring house has pigeons but we feed them every morning anyway - they wait for my wife to go out there with bread and birdseed - they're all on the roof waiting for their breakfast. We also get the magpies and male blackbirds that sing away for about two hours non-stop, but it's unsettled the pigeons. I'll fight in their corner and chase them off. We've only got a small garden - I'll shoo off the cat, too. He's also got ringed doves. Got a marvellous photo of one just as it put it's head up. One of the youngsters hurt it's wing in our garden. It's parents stayed up with it all night to protect it - so did my wife! 3.35a.m. she went out there to make sure it was OK - she wouldn't do that to me! Have a nice evening everyone.

We have rooks in the oak trees opposite the house and I have had to 'rook proof' my bird tables. They have tried but, so far, failed to remove the chicken wire I installed on the sides. We also have a pair of pigeons nesting.
For the first time in my life I have a rabbit problem. Only ever seen one - ate my poppies - right down to the base little beggar. Don't know what I'll do if it becomes a regular occurence - any thoughts Sam?
Pigeon pie - bleurgh.

we have a real problem with jackdaws which are hooooge unlike the wee ones on the shoreline, and crows. The jackdaws are trying all the time to pinch the bird food, and the crows have learned how to tip over the food bins and take the handle over the top of the box as this unlocks the bin!!!
we have wood pigeons and collared doves, oh and a sparrow hawk but I haven't seen him for a week or so now come to think of it.
I've counted 21 species of birdie in the garden and provide breakfast lunch and tea for everyone of the tinkers....love birds x

We have all the birds mentioned above but I'm afraid when the crows get beyond a joke hubby kills one and hangs it in a tree. It certainly makes the rest stay away for a while. Crows take chicks, ducklings and eggs.
He has to hang it high enough or a fox'll pinch it.
He had a fox get into the duck house a few nights ago. It killed 10, hubby had to finish 5 off and the ten that were left were traumatised!

That's awful CG. They have to be one of my least liked animals.:(

Oh dear, What have you got against the harmless pigeon - flying rat indeed! Shame on you! They're all God's creatures
No, these were ravens all right. They took off the second I put my hand on the back door handle. I like crows - they look so majestic, especially the big ones - do you know they can live up to thirty years? And yet at the other end of the scale, you'll have a robin who'll only live two years, three at the most. I personally have a soft touch for the wagtail. Getting back to the crow, I knew somebody who had one as a pet. It had a massive conservatory all to itself. The neighbours were terrified of it! I'm not a twitcher, but my biggest scoop was seeing a nut hatch in a wood on the South Downs near Eastbourne. We buy at least two loaves of bread when we visit my late father's seat (bought and inscribed in his name at Eastbourne. They run rings round the seagulls - that's why they scream so much! They, and the gulls have vorasacious appitites.

Aaaw Chicken Grandma, that's rotten, poor babies. I have a nutty neighbour leaving dogmeat at her back door for the fox (es), I've only ever seen one hereabouts. My Papa used to do that with crows, he always kept some chooks 'cos after the war you couldn't get fresh eggs. First time my townie friend saw one hanging up she was appalled.
I actually knew that Sam, lived in the country all my adult life. I'm hoping it's a one-off. My friend John says he'll bring his airgun down, oooh-er I've seen it hopping about the garden for weeks, but this is the first time it's eaten anything, wonder why? Do you suppose he/she will tell all it's pals?

Sam - we have a pair of collared doves who nest in the garden every year. Would it be the same pair or am I being dippit? Like Capt. B. we have loads of birds in the garden - but my favourites are the wrens and the thrush, with it's jumpity jump. I love watching them.

We don't get the variety of birds we used to get, a few years ago.
The missing ones I can think of are jays, woodpeckers, not so many wagtails and hedge sparrows.
We have loads of wood pigeons, crows, fewer collared doves, blackbirds, bluetits, robins, thrushes, chaffinches, and wrens. We had lots of swallows a couple of weeks ago, two flew into the house in one day, and for one afternoon a year we have a whole army (40 or 50) long-tailed-t*ts that go down the row of trees beside us, clearing them of every bug and spider they can find. It's a strange sight!
I once saw a firecrest, but only the once.

Thank you for that Sam - I wasn't aware they were getting rarer. They come at the same time every year and are such gentle birds. We have a woodpecker - I had never seen one until we moved here and couldn't get over his vibrant colours. Never seen a firecrest though.
