I must apologise profusely 'cos a tragedy has occurred.
All but two of the ten I made have exploded in the kiln for reasons that are unclear.
It's possible that the kiln was not working properly or the lid wasn't shut properly or
just 'cos the birdies all got together and conspired to be awkward little boogers!!
I am told it was not a pretty sight and all I could have done was recycle them into a
kind of parts-of-birdie-collage type thing and re-fire, but that would probably not
have been a pretty sight either, so I opted for starting again.
The two that survived went into another firing as there wasn't room for them all in
one go.
So, the long and the short of it is that I have now re-made some of them and will be
doing the others as soon as I possibly can.
I am sorry for keeping you all waiting but I'll let you know when they're ready.
Yours grovellingly,
Fishy

That's perfectly ok fishie, they are certainly worth waiting for!
I know this happens and is so heartbreaking. My daughter uses a kiln for her clay masterpieces and of course you don't fire it up half empty, so she puts hours and hours of work into the pieces and puts them into the kiln all at once. If one piece explodes it can shatter or damage all the other pieces. It must be so sad to wait in anticipation, and when the lid is raised, instead of your works of art there's just a jumbled mess!!
You take all the time you need fishie. Those who can't wait obviously don't want one badly enough!

Thanks Chickengrandma. I feel for my tutor as well as it's her kiln and she felt bad
about it. Nobody's fault though, these things happen and, in the general scheme of
things, it's not the end of the world.

Thanks people for being so understanding.
I love the look of those nuts and that lovely mosaic worktop they are sitting on. I think we shall have to
scoff them all so we can see the worktop better!
Good news re birdies is that I have managed to get pink glass for those who wanted pink and also
the most scrumptious shade of purple so you should all get the colour you want.
