Just caught up on this thread.
Merc, I'm glad that you like my avatar. Must ring Grace's mum up this week. Of course, I'll have to have a chat with the little lady as well.
We seem to get more snails than slugs. We had the same last year. I think that it's due to the wet weather. We've no rain here at the moment but it's looking very ominous. Whilst I was dead heading a rose earlier, there was a snail near to the top of the rose bush and it's over 4 feet high. They're a nuisance. What we've started doing is putting broken egg shells down because they only like going over smooth surfaces.

chris, when we lived in Southport, there were millions of snails there, when it rained they would come out of the walls around each garden, big and small ones, they looked so cute! you just couldn't keep them down though:-(
there's not many of them here as the soil is clay and too hard for them.
tomorrow we aim to dig up the last of the iris and replace them with a shrub that has grown too big for it's place, providing the weather is OK that is....

We've got rain at the moment and I'm sorry CB, but they've forecast it for you for tomorrow. 😞

The grandchildren picked the strawberries today. I was surprised at how many great big ripe ones there were. More than enough for the four of us for after tea, but we managed to force them all down!:^O
