THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Evening ladies.:-D  First time I've been on here today, child minding!

Lovely dolls, bag and button brooch.  I got some chunky tape and patterns today (lunchtime) and I've just finished the back of a hooded jacket for a 6 year old. (nothing to say you can't knit while a toddler plays at your feet!:-D)

Borzoi, hubby says mites don't usually cause bald patches, it could be feather pecking or just old age.  He figures if they've been out of cages for a year, they're probably 2.5 to 3 years old, and that's about their limit.  That was probably the reason for the one that died on Monday, and if it is, you'll probably lose more very soon. He says if they get 'ill' (just standing still, a little hunched up) it's best to 'do the deed' rather than leave them to die slowly.:-(

Not the ones they use for batteries merlin.  They're hybrids, bred to lay about 6 eggs a week for 2 years.  Purebred chickens only lay about 3 to 4 eggs a week but live for about 10 years.:-D

Thank you & OH CG 🙂

There is another one I suspect will go downhill 😞

I see it as anything they have is better than where they came from but hadn't known that about the difference between hybrids and purebreds for life expectancy....makes sense though.

We were told they were in the next batch due to go and were 17months old when we got them, so yes, now about 2.5yrs.

I thought they stopped laying from 4 or 5 but could live til 8 or 9 but looks unlikely although 3 or 4 of them look good, and the eggs are only an added bonus to having them.

And also can't do the deed but know the way to the vets and do go when needed.

Thanks CG 🙂

The hybrids we sell (free range) are £11 each and our purebred ones are £15, but a lot of people sell them for up to £30.  Hubby buys the hybrids in through a wholesaler, they're bred in France, you can't breed them yourself.  He breeds the purebreds though, about 20 different kinds.  They're just beginning to hatch since Monday.:-D
