No child should miss out on havind a dad's presence in thier lives and your son is doing a great job of being there.
Mine had to miss out but not through choice and still miss him terribly even though Mr stan has been a fantastic stepdad and they love him dearly

Her mum had to be taken to court for him to get access. She got legal aid, he had to pay through the nose.X-(
its to be hoped she grows up to be more like Dad than Mum then, I bet Mum never thought he'd bother if she lived so far a way

Good on mr stan, he's a good egg! I expect it's very difficult being a step parent.
Her mum moved further away ck, they did live in Croydon which was bad enough, but then they moved to Portsmouth.

I also became a step-mum to his 3 children who lived with him, however he definitely had the harder job of living up to an ideal.
At least his kids could still see their mum.

I can imagine all sorts of rivalries between the children (depending on age of course) 'MY dad said this, well MY mum said that and she knows better'. Even the most well matched couple can have different values and rules of discipline. I expect there can be many tricky situations if not handled in the right way.:O

CG when we got together I was 25 and mr stan was 42 children were 20,16,14,8,6 and 3 and all bar 1 lived with us.
Favourite phrase was always "you can't tell me what to do your not my mum/dad".
However we all soon learned to get along and where the boundaries are.
He is a father figure to my kids where as I am a freind to his and we used to make sure they had regular contact with their mum.
His kids do call me mum sometimes but only cos they know how to wind me up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
