THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

This is the first one I did, which was professionally backed, unfortunately I now live 300 miles away from the person who did it and I don't know anyone here I wojuld trust with it, nor do I have a clue on how to go about doing it myself.  They are straight sided, honestly, just photographed in a hurry.  I would rather not use any adhesive, I'd be scared of it leaching through and discolouring the wool.

This one was stitched on one piece -

Here are the four orchid panels that are the centre of the latest one, the border is dog roses and forget-me-nots

Cymbidium.

Odontoglossum

Phalaenopsis

Zygopetellum

If the back of the rug isn't 'backed' (do ya know what I mean?) then I think I would do the whole lot, not just the joins.... it will protect your stitching as it would be a crime for it to get damaged after all the time you have spent doing it.

Apparently it's easier to get any grit or dust out of they aren't backed and that's what causes the main damage.

They're beautiful, but even if I had the skill I wouldn'thave the patience.  They must take ages!  Tell me you don't put them on the floor for people to walk on!!!Smiley Surprised

Of course I do, that's what they are made for - but people aren't allowed to walk on them on shoes :-). They are pretty hardwearing as they are cross stitched in tapestry wool - in fact they are as hard wearing as pure wool/silk woven rugs (think Persian or Aubusson).  They're also Scotchguarded when they are finished.

They take about 6 - 8 months each but as they are stitched and them pieced together it never seems a huge task as you do them bit bu bit. The first two are about 4' x 6' each. The latest one is smaller about 5' x 2'6" and intended for  a bedside rug.  I have wool and canvas stacked in boxes for several more.

Having a very demanding job I find the complete concentration they take relaxes me better than reading or TV.

I love the rugs Chips.  They are brilliant.

Thanks for the hugs Merc.  heart  Tomorrow, I will take a photo of my wedding outfit to show.  It's only four weeks away now.  Steph wants us to get there about 45 minutes before the wedding is due.  I think this is because she wants us to calm Graham down 'cos he's more nervous than she is.  We think it's because he has to make a speech at the reception.  I wouldn't care, he made a speech at Grace's Christening and he did really well.  We shall do our best with him.  He's a lovely young man.

Merc, Graham is a lovely lad.  His dad died in February this year and Graham was so pleased that we'd gone to the funeral.  The poor lad looked lost.  He just had to have one of my now famous hugs.

I've had trouble getting to sleep for a while now and the only time I sleep during the day is when I'm not well.  But then again, I am not up at 4 in the morning.  The only time I tend to get up earlyish is when my mum's in hospital.  That's so I can get jobs done before I go for my swim.
