I still don't know the difference between a stew, a casserole and a hotpot!! Thinking about it, I know what a stew is 'cos that's the one I make. It's meat (usually beef) and every root veg known to man plus celery and I put kidney beans in, sometimes chick peas and sometimes pearl barley. I usually add oxos and flavourings making it nice and 'meaty'! It's cooked on the top of the stove in a big pan. Casserole I THINK is the same thing but cooked in the oven. I think hotpot is cooked in the oven but what IS it exactly??
Anyway for tea I had bacon, sausage, potato waffles and omelette. He had the chicken and noodle stuff that was left from yesterday, then we both had home made strawberry trifle.

The only thing with fat-free food is what they replace the fat with to bring the flavour back. It's usually worse for you than the fat. My daughter was on a fat free diet for years but the dietician advised her to introduce fat back as she would be getting very low on vitamins and minerals.

Hotpot is meat and veg with stock / gravy topped with thinly sliced potato, cooked slowly in the oven. Usually uses cheaper cuts of meat.
Lancashire hotpot is usually made with lamb or mutton.
I had salmon cooked in paper parcels in the oven with new spud and spinach

Ta stroppy. So hotpot is the same as casserole except the potatoes are on the top rather than in with the rest of the veg?
So Books had hotpot AND more veg, when I make stew the veggies are in there and I fill the dish/soup bowl to the top!!
I think they're all the same really!

I think so C.G.
Stew was probably the original one pot meal, cooked over the fire before folks had ovens.
Stew would usually use whatever tough / cheap meat was available, with whatever root veg was in season and cheap. The Welsh use lamb and call it cawl, in the liverpool area it is called scouse, but they are all a similar principal.
