I have an unopened Pack of Whitworths Sultanas, but to my dismay realised that the Sell-By date is September 2012. (My fault, time flies)!
However, does anyone know if they would still be OK to use?
Grateful thanks,
amethyst

Been there, done that! If they look and smell all right, taste one. It should only be a Best Before date, not a Use By Or You Will Die! I am fairly careful about dates, but sometimes things lurk in the cupboard longer than they should. It depends what the item is. I'm sure we've used dried fruit past its date. Milk products are another matter.
By the way, anyone know how you can tell if blue cheese has gone off?

I'm sure they'd be ok. I'm sure I've used stuff like that and been ok. (well, hubby has been ok, I always give it to him first lol)
I threw a couple of tins of condensed milk out yesterday that I'd got for a recipe but never used. They were dated 2011 !!

Yes, I reckon they'll be fine, especially if they haven't been opened.
As others have said, taste one and if it tastes dodgy then perhaps think again (one dodgy
sultana is unlikely to do much harm!), but I don't reckon it'll be dodgy.

Thank you all for the advice. - and the smiles they brought as well 🙂

Funnily enough, I cleared my cupboards out and found a packet , best before Dec 2012; as I was just getting over food poisoning, I didn't risk using them, but did put them out for the birds, who absolutely loved them.

It's probably a coincidence that all the birds in your garden have tummy ache! :^O

The date matters less than the way they have been stored.
Given that it was in a cool dry place out of direct light there should be no problem, sell by dates are there for guidance, use by dates are more important.

Is that why I've had to clean my windows? 😄
