Recently finished a 14 day course of sleeping pills; the GP wouldn't prescribe them for longer as he said they were addictive. Now I am back to sleepless nights again. Felt so much better on the pills having slept better, mood was better, stomach was better. Now trying Valerian herbal tea at night, but it isn't helping. Anyone got any ideas for a decent night's sleep please? Due to my Crohn's I have to be careful what I take, so that my stomach doesn't get upset. I've tried Nightol (don't know how you spell it) but it gave me headache. Thanks.

My daughter tried the sounds with Amy as she has trouble sleeping. Don't think it helped much. She has a spoon of Piriton before bed now & that helps her get off. She is only eight so can't have the herbal thing that was suggested.

hi, just a thought are you allowed soya, rice, & a new one on the market lactose free milk, if so you could drink this as a milky drink?

Ohhhhh yes sorry Carol!!!!. I just thought those CDs you buy of relaxing music or the sound of the ocean perhaps. That sounds nice.

I used to set my CD to finish in 60 mins & was still wide awake when it had finished, Lol
I can have soya milk, I have it on my cereal, but will try it at bedtime. Just having a cup of Valerian plus tea, don't like it very much.
As for counting sheep, I bet Sam is busy doing that at the moment 🙂

I fully understand the frustration Carol as I am exactly the same regarding sleep. I was once told by a sleep therapist that my brain is overactive and just does not switch off at night, so what the heck can I do about that....I have yet to find a solution.

If you haven't tried it already you could try Horlicks and see if that works. It tastes revolting but I've found that it works for me to a certain extent, although it does seem to take a while to work. Unless I've had a really stressful day at work and go to bed feeling absolutely shot I can never really just get into bed and doze off straightaway, especially on a cold night.

@bitsnknots wrote:Another suggestion to see if it helps is a banana if you can manage it. If so, try it with a digestive biscuit. Another thing is, if you like turkey, try a turkey sandwich using wholemeal bread.

Had another poor night last night, don't think I'll have any more Valerian tea, the bit I did dream wasn't a nice dream and it has been mentioned on here that Valerian can cause bad dreams.
Will be good to see some more pics of Lambs, Sam

There was an article in this week's Mail with some ideas:
One of the commenters recommended something called sleepio, which helped her retrain her sleep: it seems connected with the thing in the article, about getting a 0.9 efficiency: I had a quick look at it - you have to pay for it, but it might be worth a look, as they have a money back guarantee, and if nothing else has worked...
On another note, I miss seeing the lambs now I live in a city: when I was a student, I used to go off and help different family members with the lambing - my current bosses would take a bit of a dim view of time off, though! Now *that* helps you sleep 🙂

I find that if I get "het up" and can't sleep, just one aspirin with a warm drink settles me down. ( I don't know if paracetamol would work as well, I generally only take aspirin because I need the anti-inflamatory side of it.)
I suppose you've dealt with the "too hot, too cold, hard bed, bouncy pillow" side of things? (Memories of a sleepless week at a hotel in Turkey...)
Some people also find that moving the bed to a different part of the room helps.
I've also heard that some people cover their heads with something like a towel, or even an empty pillow case; I suppose it might stop heat loss (30% from your head, apparently), your head might be chilly while the rest of you is toasty under the duvet.

There's also the wet socks/dry socks method - http://wildwoodmedicine.com/index.php/2013/10/wet-sock-treatment/
I confess I've never tried it, but I do often suffer with cold feet: apparently, it also helps rout colds too!
