Say hello if you're online

Afternoon all.  It's very cloudy here at the moment and it looks like it might rain.  Been getting on with knitting my mum's cardigan and it's coming along well.

It turned into a lovely sunny day in the end. Had a nice walk to the beach with Damson.:) It should stay light longer tonight as it's clear.

It's been beautiful today, blue and sunny all day, and it's supposed to be 21° tomorrow.  Hubby gets in now for his tea at five as it's dark by then even on a bright day!

Say hello if you're online

Well, another frustrating day.

Had an appointment with the nurse at the GP surgery to discuss the diabetes, and what a waste of time that was! She asked who cares for my feet, cuts my toe nails etc, and wouldn't beleive me when I said ME!. She yanked my sandals and socks off, grabbed hold of my toes and then wondered why I screamed in pain. She just looked at me when I explained that due to damage to the sciatic nerve in 1999 that sensation and movement in my feet has been very abnormal for 15 years and that diabetes is hardly likely to change it!

She tried to take my blood pressure, as usual couldn't get a reading, so just made up a figure and put that in my notes.

She asked when my eyes were last checked, and again just looked at me when I said that my eyes have never been checked at the hospital and my last eye test at the opticians was about 5 years ago.

She couldn't give me any advice on diet or medication, or prescribe anything, because she was "just a bank nurse". She did write a note asking another nurse to make a referral to chiropody and for an eye check.

She told me that there is no point in checking my blood glucose levels, and said that there was no need for any blood tests until January.

Oh - I nearly forgot, she asked me why I am not on statins - I replied that is because my cholesterol levels are low, and since I am semi-permanently on a cocktail of anti-biotics I had been advised to avoid statins like the plague.

She also really annoyed me by putting in my notes that I am "wheelchair bound" - no I flaming well am not. I am a wheelchair user, largely because I am lazy - walking is difficult, painful, exhausting so terribly slow that I CHOOSE to use the wheelchair as an aid. I CAN (and do) walk when I need to, but mostly I choose to save my energy for doing other things.

I was told to go back in January, but I am not sure that I will bother wasting my time, especially as it so flaming difficult to get and appointment.

So I am no further forward. The hospital consultant will not be pleased, as he specifically asked the GP surgery to check and closely monitor my blood glucose levels.

Say hello if you're online

well I was sent to the hospital to see a diabetic consultant, to cut a long story short, it was a total waste of time. I was just taking up an appointment for someone who was in desparate need.

I had a row with one consultant, who was more interested in getting off home because I was the last appointment. He tried to belittle me the whole time and I was so annoyed that I decided I wouldn't go again.

I get pestered by the doctors surgery but I refuse to go every 3 months, I go every 6. If they are telling me to only test my bloods once a week what is the point?????

Gawd Stroppy.  What sort of GP (and staff) do you have?  The nurses at our GP's are brilliant.  The first sign of a problem and you're in to see the main GP and if need be, straight to hospital.  It's disgusting the way they are treating you.

Sending you some gentle hugs Stroppy.  heart

Sounds about par for the course Stroppy.

I refuse to see the Diabetes Nurse at our practice as she is useless. No real diet advice - just told me to look at Diabetes UK website or register with myfitnesspal.

When I told her that the diabetes was just the latest in a long list of things going wrong with my help, and tthat I needed someone to listen to me as I haven't felt well for 15 years, her reply was....

"Well you've had plenty of time to get used to it."

Dear Mags, I would have reported her to the Practice Manager in a heartbeat, she cannot talk to you like that, it is unprofessional and she should not be so cavalier with her language.  As for Stroppy, well, the same applies, I cannot believe what I read about how you are treated.  Shocking.   You of all people should be seeing a podiatrist.

Is it because we live in a village - as I have asked before - are these big town practices so uncaring because they are too busy?  Or if it is just a basic lack of human care, then that comes from the top and that is where I would go.

Flu jab - mentioned during weekly 'confab' with my GP - same evening District Nurse appeared with it, to save me having to go into 'town' - it's 7 miles away.

I do hope I don't have to eat my words.

Morning all.

Carol, the practice we go to have around 2500 patients and they are brilliant.  I always say that if we were still with our previous GP (who couldn't give a toss) my mother wouldn't be here now.  This is because our current GP picked up on it more or less as soon we walked into his surgery.  Judging by what has been said, I think that we are very lucky to have such a good GP and nurses.

Afternoon all.  With our previous GP, you were only referred to hospital when you were at death's door.  Hence the fact we changed just over four years ago.

The weather's not been too bad up until a few minutes ago as it's just started to pour down.
