Saturday's tea thread..........

Thought I would start this one off nice and early as I have finished making it.

Having home made cod fillet fishcakes which will be served with salad and a large helping of sweetcorn. No chips as there are enough carbs in the mash in the fishcakes.

Dog sitting Poppy this weekend so anything that happened to fall on the floor was immediately hovered up by a very greedy chocolate lab.

As an aside (after having Molly put down the other week, which a lot of you will know about) Poppy is perfectly happy now being the only dog....she was a tad confused for a day or so (which for a chocolate lab is not difficult as they are never big in the brains department LOL) but is now enjoying the fact that she gets all the fuss (and left overs) now. At the time of writing Poppy is sat on my other sofa on a blanket and is snoring her head off LOL. Even though she is not my dog I do like having her round because it is a lovely excuse to get out and about on a walk.....and most of the time you get to meet and chat to all the other dog owners round here.

Have a great day

Before cooking, cookie.  How can you see it's a good potato if it's still got the peel on?

norty norty CB eating more toast ! Toast is bad for diabetics because when you toast bread you caramelise it making it more sugary.

Well the doctor told me that  😮  :^O

Tell your Dr he/she is a muppet!

Then tell them to look up the difference between the Maillard reaction and Caramelisation

Shami kebab, lamb lanka mirch and 3 chappatis for me, washed down with some nice English beers. Mrs W is having a couple of indian starters 'cos she is not a pig like me! Oh and some rose instead of beer!

wskneil, a bit of research before you start calling people muppets would have shown you that the carmelisation of foods involves the maillard reaction.

The toasting of plain bread caramelises the sugars contained within.

cb i am with you i eat loads of toast :-)and imho if there is sugar in the bread untoasted say you eat two slices at 2 grams of sugar per slice .and then you eat 2 slices of toast just because you toast it do not make it contain more sugar so 2 slices of toast also at 2 grames of sugar per slice the same as bread.  yes or no.

i haven't read it and probably won't, but I do have a bit of advice. Newbies calling people muppets is not the way to win friends 🙂

Saturday's tea thread..........

I had a look on the internet and on several diabetic sites about this thing with toasted bread..... what I found out is that when bread is toasted it takes the water out of the bread so if you are going to weigh the food do it at the raw state not after toasting. There are some websites out there about degrees of toasting on the bread and a link with cancer something to do with AGEs. I couldn't find, although I do remember reading it somewhere about diabetics shouldn't eat toast. There was one site saying that maybe you should eat the toast with something else such as butter or cheee so that it is processed differently in the body. Also there was mention in some of the websites about freezing bread and then toasting it being worse for you, the freezing process doing something else to the bread. Whole wheat and grains are better than the ordinary white bread. There is mention about the Malliard Reaction and Diabetes, but I couldn't find any site that says you shouldn't eat toast just because you are diabetic. I guess everything in moderation and if diabetic follow your guidelines. And if toasting do it ever so lightly. 🙂
