Retinopathy

A neighbour, who is diabetic, has been told she has "Retinopathy." She wants me to look it up on the 'net. Just wondered if anyone has any personal experience of it? Thanks.

Fortunately my mums eyes are fine now, but she did have cataracts removed when she was first diagnosed with diabetes, but it is important to  keep your sugar levels nice and even. She does go for regular eye checks as it is much better if retinopathy is caught early, same being for the feet as well,

Retinopathy

It's as we discussed on the Diabetic thread, the blood vessels at the back of the eye become viscose through sugar levels not being properly controlled, you will always get some changes but if left can cause blindness, cataracts & impaired vision , which is why you were advised by another poster to have an eye test once your levels were under control, even more important most Diabetics have an annual eye X-ray so that if there is a drastic change the Hospital can do something about it!.
