I must have driven past your house as well ! I have delivered to Gleneagles Hotel and to a house that was being built opposite the main entrance to the hotel. Instead of turning left into the hotel entrance turn right down beside what I think is the practice area and the houses sit down there.

The one I delivered to was having air con throughout and even had a private cinema.

Ooooh Corgi, that's know locally as Millionaires Row.  Lots of hot shots, property magnates, football connections and the like.

We go to 2 'dos' there each year, one summer Barbie and one Christmas, from the footie connection.  I know one house quite well and it is like something out of a 30/40s movie.  The staircase, the marble floor, the furnishings and the flowers are always wow!!  The lady of the house I had met in my Aberdeen days and she's fine and canny, never changed and she has been so kind to me since my illness.  But some of them - no thanks.

Sorry but we're the road next right - I don't do mornings - always lunch (soup or OH goes into a decline) - so yes there's a welcome and always plenty of food. I'm thinking of all the trucks that got stuck those 2 terrible winters on the A9 - so pack your wellies :^O  It is a beautiful part of Scotland - and lots of the pathways around Gleneagles are rights of way, so makes a bonny walk, I know I am very lucky.

Must have driven past your road end then RDW as I have to use the servants entrance when delivering to the hotel :^O. Also must have passed it the day the A9 was blocked by a fallen tree as I tried to get down the road that runs parallel with the A9 but that was blocked as well and had to turn round and go back the Dunfermline / Stirling road. The day of the A9 being blocked by snow and ice I was in the small 3.5 ton pickup type flatbed van and had to spend the night in that but at least I had been forewarned and had things to eat and drink, I felt really sorry for families and people stuck in cars though as many of them had nothing but some really wonderful people were leaving the warmth of their homes and bringing hot food and drink to the stranded people.

That night really restored a lot of peoples faith in fellow human beings.

Yes Corgi you would have passed our street.  We were a wee squad hauling a sledge with bacon buttties, tea, coffee soup and other bits for kids.  I had never in all my days in Perthshire seen anything like it.  Local guy out clearing a path to the A9 with his tractor - no-one else could get through. I have photos of our street as we walked back I shall try and find.  One local lady made the trip to help others on skis!!  Her backpack on - people are magic, huh?  It was quite scary though, so remember where we are and you'll have a fine cosy bed 😉

We couldn't get out of our street (just a wide lane really) for nigh on 2 weeks, other than by walking.

how nice of everyone to help like that Rainy. It does restore your faith in human nature though.

it's really nice when someone asks us for something in work and actually says thankyou! We had a woman come up to one of us .com shoppers the other day and say she had been watching and saw that we do care about what we put in the shopping, that we watch for the best produce etc. and she thanked us for all our hard work to do the shops. We were gobsmacked!! no one has ever done that before, and to think of all the thousands of shops we've done!

You're dead right Capt - some folks are just professional moaners. You should see the deliveries your guys make to the big houses - it is just unreal.  So, at one of these Christmas dos I happened to mention to the woman I was chatting to (well up herself iykwim) that I always gave my T. man a tip and a bottle at Christmas.  She almost had apoplexy and was going to report me:O  Eh??  And my wee hoose he's just to come off the road, up 3 steps and walk into the kitchen.  These other places they have to walk miles :^O

Another thing, those 2 dreadful winters all the youngsters were out as well.  They always get a hard time for smoking and capering outside the chippy down in the town, you know.  Big adventure for them, got to know a couple of them (still at the High School) - one of them had on his Mum's size 8 wellies - liquorice allsorts design 😛  He got ribbed something rotten by his mates. He and his pal have helped me out down the road with some heavy lifting, big plant pots, furniture and the like, just for a few quid.

I worked in insurance for sixteen years and dealing with the Great British public is not the easiest job in the world.  I nearly fell over when I received a thank you of a client.  The ones we used to get a thank you from always worked in jobs that involved dealing with the public.  Sorry to say it but teachers were the worst as they still thought they were in the classroom talking to the kids they taught.

I contacted Tesco this week (via my till receipt) to say how helpful one of their guys was. He got three bags of compost for me, took it through checkout & put it in my car. They phoned me to thank me for the feedback & to confirm the guys name. I hope he gets some credit for being so helpful.:-)

they'll tell him you rang and said he was very helpful and that will be that. They never praise us properly when we do anything right. We used to get certificates which we could keep, it gave you the will to carry on:^O

I have to agree that it makes a huge difference when people say "thank you", and I always make a point of saying "thank you" to people in shops, people who help me, bus drivers, allsorts of people who do something for me.

My sister in law once said to my husband as we all got off a bus in their town, "What did you thank the driver for, they're only doing their job?"  He asked her what was wrong with it, it didn't hurt!

I actually feel like adding please and thank-you to the end of some peoples' sentences when in shops etc, 'cos the way some people talk to others is appalling!  I haven't done it yet but I'm sure I will one day!

RDW.............................

On Friday it was the last day of school for some of the senior pupils on the school bus I drive.

They were having a whale of a time on the way, throwing socks at each other (don't ask, private joke apparently!), doing no harm, so, even though they were a bit louder than usual I let it go.

I wished them good luck, they all said thank-you as they usually do and one said, and I swear he was going to cry, "I can't believe this is our last day on the school bus, thanks Miss, top bus drivers you lot are!"  Then we got a rendition of "All hail to the bus drivers" (off The Simpsons).

That made my day, the children and young people aren't all bad!
