Ouija boards - Hocus pocus, or playing with fire?

In this week's Chat magazine there is an article featuring allo the woes connected to Ouija Boards.  Everybody knows what a Ouija board is - years ago they were actually selling them in a television advert  as toys aimed as Christmas presents of all things!  The problem is, for every story of woe, there are five people wanting to go out and buy one to see if it actually works!  People just love being scared!  If you don't believe me, look at the number of Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing-type films that have been around.  Even Dennis Wheatly puts a tongue in cheek warning about dark forces in his Black Magic books.  The more people you have participating the better.

"Hello, is anybody there?" is usually the first - and most ridiculous, question ever asked.  Ridiculous because the upturned tumbler or pointer will automatically go to "Yes" - it's not likely to go to "No", is it?  Smiley LOL

"Who are you?" is usually the next question, and then you're away.  Spirits of the other kind usually give the game a highly spirited, family atmosphere.

Asking whether John will fail his exams is asking for trouble - it'll obviously play on his mind, to such a degree, he will fail!

My own crowd are too scaredy-cats to get involved, but like being told not to smoke or not to venture into a disused graveyard after dark because "dark forces abound" makes it all the more  tempting to see if it really does work

I messed about with it once and there was no Bogey Man waiting at the door for me.  My cousin came out with a box of chocolates.

"Black Magic anybody?"  He asked, before the fun began.

The Bible strongly advises us against getting involved in stuff like that and Spiritualism, but I genuinely feel if you're level-headed about the whole thing, and not take it too serious, no harm will come to you.  After all, any "Evil" forces out there are totally powerless against the single force of good.

Over to you - have any of you come unstuck fooling about with a Ouija board.

Ah but they've nothing else to do as they float round for eternity, so they go to Spooks University and learn how to write and speak English!

Well if one of these spooky spirits was to spell out a message in, say, Dutch I doubt many of us would find the message scary ( apologies to any Dutch speakers!).

I do believe a little,,,and the whole thing of Ouija Boards SCARES ME!!!!. Once something is in!,,how do you get it out. Excorcism does not always work, i think it has to be done properly and by the right person, i.e a Priest?. I think anyway. I like watching films or some scary stuff but it does scare me LOL. smily dark.gif

Read "Strong Poison" by Dorothy L Sayers if you want to know how it's done.

Been a long time since I read that Duck!

No ouija boards or the like for me.  Not since John Cairney had to take me out of 'The Exorcist', when I was, oh, 16 (underage).  Still haven't seen it yet, frightened me witless.

If there were such things as spirits, why would a priest be able to do anything more than any other person, priests are only the same as any other ordinary person?

Some people believe in spirits some in ghosts, some in gods. It doesn't mean any of them are real or unreal, true or false. It's just what people chose to believe.

A romantic spiritualist put on some soft music, dimmed the lights and asked in a low husky voice: "Darling, would you care to take this TRANCE with me?"

or

As a woman is about to turn in she screams as a vampire kicks in the front door and gets ready to attack her, tearing her night dress.  She shines the torch towards him.

"Oh, George, Darling, you've been DRINKI(NG AGAIN!" Smiley LOL

Maybe its my Catholic upbringing LOL, But i just thought people say it has to be a Catholic priest or any priest. No i cant see the difference in a priest or anyone else. Maybe they are supposed to have stronger powers cos their serving God i dont know really!!!.

in my opinion they are just another tool to contact spirit, the same way you would use a pendulum or even calling out.I do believe, but am also very aware of the bandwagon that has been jumped on recently, and the tricks used to con vulnerable people out of their hard earned cash!
