LOL,
Brussels are my favourite veg and I have them at least once a week when not in season (ie frozen) but once they are in season around christmas I have them 2-3 times a week.
I love you brussels sprouts

I do too, but this harks back to the days when all veg were boiled beyond recognition by most people. My mum always cooked veg to perfection but it became a standing joke in our house, that to visitors her veg were drastically undercooked, so the 12th of December was always the day to remind her to put the brussels on. 🙂

Admits to not liking sprouts and my mum can't have them because she's on warfarin. Anyone want our share?

Ooh, no had a word bleeped out before! It's not even a swear word, it rhymes with witch. How strange.

My daughter is a Chrones sufferer but has no problem with sprouts Carol. She does avoid fibrous things when she has a flare up though.

Hi everyone, don`t you think Brussels are sweeter than they used to be? .....they seemed much stronger years ago and could be bitter, my OH thinks they are growing a new variety........they are all ready on a stem at the same time and roughly the same size but when you grew them in the garden the bottom ones were picked first as they got big enough..

I love em too!
My mum shreds sprouts, and stir fries them with diced bacon...

Last night we had some red brussel tops - there were little fledgling red sprouts too!! They were delicious

Sprouts are my favourite veg too. I had some last week that said on the bag they were sweet ones but they tasted a bit strange to me. They are growing red sprouts now to encourage children to eat them. Books, I must have been doing it wrong then because I ate sprouts all the time I was on Warfarin. I didn't change my diet at all. They only said NO cranberriies, and I don't eat them anyway.

yuk yuk yuk yuk yuk. They are an evil invention! I used to grow them every year as OH is a fan of them & I cooked them in every way known to man, determined to eat them seeing as I'd grown the wretched things but to no avail - still can't stand them!
There was something on the telly recently about these horrendous things - apparently, they are growing them to taste sweeter to try & emcourage folks to eat the things. They are trying to reduce the bitterness often assocuated with them, rather than make them sweeter.
They also take the tops off the stalks once the bottom sprouts are ready to encourage the smaller ones to catch up in size - makes them easier to cook once they're all the same size apparently.
Don't feel guilty sprout haters - think of it as doing your bit for the ozone later 😉

Yes there was a programme on last night that was talking about sweeter brussels, apparantly they have been breeding the seeds for a few years now and keep crossing the sweetest ones until they get the perfect one, so if you haven't had one since childhood, try one they might taste completely different.

We tried to grow some for this year , they are very tiny as the first lot were viciously attacked by white butterfly !
Looking like we will still have to buy some 😞
