Very occasionally I glance at the winning Premium Bond numbers, which tells you not only what that person won, but how much he held in bonds. Most big winners are holders of the maximum £30,000.00, but what brings a smile to my face are the people who haven't got the money to invest in, and yet who Lady Luck shines upon. Somebody up in Birmingham has just won £1000.00 on just £11.00 in Premium Bonds bought in 1965!!!!!!!!! As Del Boy would no doubt say: "Lovely Jubbly!"
Several years ago my very lovely sister-in-law insister on giving me £100. for helping her out. I was most reluctant to take it but in the end told her that I'd use it to buy £100.00 in Premium Bonds, and that if my number ever came up, we'd go half each. I didn't have any bonds and thought no more about it until just six weeks later, I received a £50.00 cheque through the post telling me I'd won ON MY VERY FIRST DRAW!!! I was absolutely gobsmacked! The odds against winning £50.00 on a minimum investment of £100.00 are high enough, but to win it on your very first draw must surely be INCALULABLE!
It cost me a lot more that £25.00 by way of a celebration meal of course, but I was in shock for days. Talk about tthe luck of the Irish! (My late mother was Irish)
Do you have any amazing Premium Bond/lottery stories to share?

I'd surely love to know where I'd get more money off a building society putting ten times that amount. The amount being offered by building societies is truly lamentable
Off-topic, that is the reason I don't put any money into a building society - the interest they're offering is rubbish. More to the point, why let this twisted Government know where every penny you earn is put? Any money I have stays in my pocket until I have enough to justify putting it into "a safer place" where I, not the Government, can see it. If I won the Euromillions the very first thing I'd do would be to turn it into tangible assets - Krugerrands, which speak any language. Despite all the hype, this Government aren't too happy about people winning the Euromillions, because it's one more person who is able to get off their station in life. The Government just love to keep you under their thumb.
And another thing .....

I had £100 as a christening present, and sold them in my 20s: they *never* came up - and we'd lived in the same house all that time, so it wasn't like notification had gone missing... Fred - you've definitely got the luck of... well, someone!
My folks have a bit in premium bonds - couple of grand - and one or the other wins £50 most months, which is much better than the interest rates at the moment: but I am known in the family for being unlucky - I am not now allowed to run in and pick up the parents' lottery ticket from the shop, once I had pointed out that whenever I do, they have never even won a tenner...

We put the bulk of our savings in premium bonds over the last few years because interest rates are so bad, at least we have a chance of winning big. I think we have had about £100 this year. We will be putting more in when we have more savings.

The maximum amount you can put in at the mement is £K30, but I can see that going up to £K50 within a year or so.
