Just wondered what effect there will be on the sale of lottery tickets when the cost goes up to £2 per line from next Saturday; I don't do it often, but when I do I have 2 lines; will only have one line when it goes up though. A few friends have said they will stop doing it altogether. Wish there was a prize for getting no matching numbers, I'd always be winning, LOL

I think the lottery have just shot themselves in the foot!
It now costs the same to buy a Euromillions ticket as it does a Lottery ticket and Lotto only pays aropund £7m while Euro starts at £12m.
Better odds of a win on Euro as well if you include the 'smaller' prizes.
The Health Lottery seems to be a good bet and, maybe, it is time to look at the good old football pools again.

I think maybe they are getting desperate as not as many are playing the Lottery. I do it every Saturday. I think they include a Raffle from next week?. I wonder if thats every week though or just a promotion for a while?.

Do you remember when it first started one weeks big prize was always about 11 million and now its 3.5 I think a lot of people stopped doing it because if you are like me you might win a tenner twice a year, I have never won more than ten pounds and have been doing it since it started, if I had put the money in the bank I would have a nice little amount in there now. I sometimes wonder if they put my numbers in the machine. I dream of getting more than 3 numbers.

should have included this bit
† Estimated. As is currently the case with Lotto, the prizes stated for Match 4, Match 5, Match 5+Bonus and Match 6 are an average of what we anticipate prizes will be. These will vary depending on sales, but also the number of winners in a draw for any given prize tier.

It's not so much that but more that when the jackpots were that big there weren't all these scratchcards diluting the custom; remember the jackpot size depends on the number of tickets sold so when the started the scratchcards that drew some custom away from the main draw. Since then they've introduced several other draws which have furthered the effect.
If they reverted to a simgle type of draw and had a more limited range of scratchcards the main draw jackpots would increase again.

We are stopping doing the lottery from next Saturday as it's ridiculous now. We have decided to do the Health Lottery instead. I also think that the National Lottery have shot themselves in the foot. They will lose out as a lot of people will stop doing it.

books and bits, I quite agree with you that I also think a lot of people will cease doing the lottery. This is my slant on it though, we do a line each on a Saturday at the moment so instead of doing two lines on the Saturday we will do one line on the Euro millions and if we were ever lucky enough to win the jackpot even more people would benefit from our win than they ever would from the normal lottery.
So fingers crossed peeps for us winning the Euro and a massive FHG party.
