My beloved dog is on borrowed time

Hi everyone - been back to the vets this a.m. with Poppy; she's 14. It's not looking good for her; she has been on epilepsy meds for 10 years and it's looking like her liver has been badly damaged by them. She had blood tests a couple of weeks ago, which confirmed liver damage and tomorrow she is having more blood tests to see how much of her liver is functioning. If it is too bad, then I will be losing her next week. I'm devastated. I'm looking at her lovely little face and knowing what's coming. I'm already in tears. Ironically a new canine epilepsy drug has just been made available, which doesnt damage the liver, but its too late for dogs such as Poppy. How do I put a brave face on and not let her see how sad I am? I have 2 other dogs, but every dog is an individual with their own little personalities and traits.

Unless the teeth were giving her pain, I agree with shonaWoman Happy

Thirded If the teeth are not causing pain or stopping her from eating I wouldn't put her through the physical and mental stress of an anaesthetic

Re: My beloved dog is on borrowed time

Poppy's gum is inflamed where the grotty tooth is, so got her on A/B's for that; might have to keep repeating them if it comes back. Don't know why they only left 2 teeth in a couple of years ago when she had 13 out. Her tongue still sticks out of the other side of her mouth, so it can't have been to keep her togue in, as the 2 teeth are both on the same side.

Re: My beloved dog is on borrowed time

Thank you Rose, and everyone , it means  a lot to me  that I can share this with you. Poppy seems to be holding her own at the moment; once the Milk Thistle and A/B's kick in, there might be more improvement, hopefully. xx

Re: My beloved dog is on borrowed time

Yes she is, Merc; she has had fits since she was 4, and I have had to hold her everytime until she came out of them. It's lousy seeing your dog fitting.
