I saw some Morris men coming through town this morning going to do a display. It interests me the Folk Lore connected to Morris Dancers,The Green Man, Man with the Horses head ect. I think it originally may have been to do with fertility basically but im not quite sure. They look so colourful and sound wonderful with the bells a ringing and the sticks clacking!!.
Does anyone else like this sort of thing?, or is interested in Folk Lore. I know Kent is quite well known for old Folk Lore tales and different characters?.

One of the best places to see many different Morris' is the Jack in the Green festival in Hastings early every May.
The dress/kit and the folklore behind them is fascinating.
There are even international Morris meets with some morris doing 'exchanges' over time, and it's not just traditional 'western' dancers that join in

I got invited to join a Long sword troupe many years back, after watching them outside a pub one New years day. The marketing pitch was " Youve got a beard and like real ale, how do you fancy joining us?" Unfortunately I explained my weekends were mainly spent drinking real ale with a couple of hundred bikers before camping in a muddy field. They decided this was an acceptable alternative!
