As anyone had a Mobile Chiropodist visit them at home? Or perhaps you are a Chiropodist and could help answer this query -
Should the equipment being used on the Client be sterile? If so, how is this ensured by a Mobile Chiropodist?
Thank you to anyone who can help with this query.

I cant speak for chiropodists but I worked as mobile beauty therapist for some years and used stainless steel tools on clients feet for pedicures
Any equipment to be used on a clients feet e,g cuticle nippers, cuticle knives, abrasion tools had to be in a sterile condition
If item which will come into contact with the skin is ot not in a sterile conditon then there is always the risk of cross infection or cross contamination
To maintain our stainless steel implements in a hygenic state I used an autoclave at home which sterilises tools by means of high pressure steam then the tools were placed in small, screw topl glass containers which contained a solution of Sterisure for transport to the clients home
Tools were only used on one client then put aside for cleaning, autoclaving and storing
Hope this helps

In the good old days when the chiropodist used to come round (I got thrown off the list for daring to go to work) she had multiple sets of instruments and used a fresh sterile set of instruments for each patient. The used instruments were all together in a box, and I assume that they were all washed and streilised back at the clinic. The sterile instruments were all wrapped in paper.

My mother who is a diabetic has a mobile chiropodist and she takes the implements straight out of a sealed bag each time she comes, I think they are sent off somewhere to be sterilised and then come back to her sealed.
(would you believe the spell checker doesn't recognise chiropodist ?????)

Thank you so much for these replies. My mother has a Chiropodist visit, but shared with me her concern that all the instruments have no indication of appearing to be sterile. Not wrapped, or even dipped into any solution.
Appreciate these responses,
