Little bars of soap!

I have put this on the Sewing thread but thought I might catch more eyes with a fresh thread.:-)

I am on the scrounge!  You know Dairy & I make kits to go out to the girls in Africa & other places. Well they have asked us to pop a little 'hotel' size soap in each kit now. Have any of you got some lying around you have gathered on your travels you could let me have. Happy to pay postage. I have managed to get quite a few in the charity shops but will need quite a lot more. I don't go on hotel holidays these days.:-)

I found a lovely message this morning from a member, she is sending me a box of 50 soaps:-x fankyou Maggie for adding my name in the opening fred;) as im the quiet type I would have carried on nicking them from them lodge type B&B's but there is only 1 near here and I keep getting strange looks when I book in...not unless its cos im wiv a different bloke each time?:|...hey do you fink thats why:O:^O:^O

Can you put a list of what type of thing you need for these please. I know you mentioned soaps on this but wondered what other things you send so I can have a look in my box of treasures I keep from being a "Ding Dong" Lady.

A kit contains the sanitary shields & liners we make, 2x1gall 'Ziplock' bags, 1pr of cotton knickers, 2 safety pins, a face cloth & a small soap. These go in a cotton drawstring bag we also make.

What we have to buy is the soaps, Ziplocks, face cloths & knickers.

Nothing else is to go in the kits other than the instructions for use that we print off.:-)

They are then taken to the girls in several different countries by organisations so the are actually given to the girls & women themselves & don't fall into the wrong hands.:-)

Maggie, do they have to be bought, wrapped, soaps?    Only I make my own cold process soap these days and could make you a batch if this was an ongoing need and they would be acceptable?

Oh, bother! My daughter went on a backpacking holiday just recently and I popped them all into her rucksack, so have only been able to find one!!

I've got lots of large ziplocks, though, if they're any use for your future sends?? Bought a box in Costco a while ago, and it'll take years to use them all! 🙂

Hi Pix. They have to be 1gall 'Ziplock' brand bags to stand up to the use they get. Dairy & I have just ordered a few hundred! lol 

Elph they would be wonderful. They only need to be small though so all the girls get similar:-) The bought ones are 15g weight.

Patch, they are Ziploc brand, described as double zipper, heavy duty freezer gallon bags. Although there is no actual "zip" thing in sight - it's more of a double-strip press 'n seal type thingy. Size 26.8cm x 27.3cm

When I said the things we buy for the kits & didn't mention the fabric & the special waterproof fabric to go in the sheilds.:-)

So it's not just for young girls. Do you need stuff for 'big girls', i ordered my mum some 'big' knickers ('cos of her distended stomach be ause of kidney problems), size 20-22 & 24-28. They are still brand new as the nursing home marked them with her room number & then she went straight into hospital & never got to wear them. Any good???

They ask for size 14 to 18 for the kits but there is a charity called 'Smalls for All' that would take them.

They are a great charity & have taken kits out for days for Girls. The kits are for any menstruating age women & girls.

What colours for the cotton knickers Maggie ?

Merc as long as they are not white or pale shades then any colour. The darker the better due to staining.

I got 2 large bath towels at the bootfair on Sunday for £2, a pretty blue colour I will make face cloths with these, I should get 24 out of them.

I was so saddened to read things do not get delivered to where they are sent due to theft. Anyone going on holiday that way is asked if they can take a bag with their luggage.:(
