Leather Corner Suite - DFS v SCS ?

Hope to have some helpful input regarding two Leather Corner Suites we have seen and liked.  One was from DFS and the other SCS.

Have any of you purchased a suite from either of these Stores, and were you pleased with the purchase over a period of time, and your thoughts on the Company you dealt with?

Also, we were considering a red leather, and have heard from some customers via DFS that the red colour dye as somehow come out on their clothes, plus some structural issues!  As anyone any experience of this?

Any helpful tips or advice following your experiences would be much appreciated.

Thank you

We bought two leather sofas from SCS and to be honest they have been rubbish, they weren't cheap so we took out the warranty which also turns out to be rubbish when you read what is covered, and then they have the cheek to add the cost of a rather overpriced care kit to the order without asking. Would we shop there again... No Never.

Gulp!

Thank you for letting me know your experience with one of these companies and the sofas.  It is clearly not as straight-forward as it might seem.  Some of these furniture stores give very good impressions, but as these units are being made by them, I have been hearing some less than flattering views on quality and service!

Just in case someone as purchased the same Item - we were looking at La Z Boy at SCS and Director at DFS in red leather.

Appreciate opinions, before committing ourselves.

We've bought from both and I must admit that I thought that DFS were better because I thought that the quality was better.

We don't buy the care kits but you can get leather wipes from the pound shops which I think do the job just as well.

Thank you for your experience of this Store.  (Will certainly ensure we do not accept any Care Kit either).

Leather Corner Suite - DFS v SCS ?

We had a terrible experience with SCS.  We paid almost £4000 for a leather suite and one of the chairs had sunk and collapsed within the first month, and the sofa had started to droop at the front.  We tried over and over again to speak to the manager and he refused point blank to talk to us.

The staff said he was on holiday, in a meeting, on his lunch break, off sick etc.  One time I phoned they said he was on holiday. I was starting to disbelieve them by this time, so I phoned again 15 minutes later, to be told by someone else that he was in a meeting. Eventually I gave them a false name, and he came on the phone and hung up as soon as I said who I really was.

It was purely by chance that I phoned one day, and the area manager who just happened to be visiting the store, answered the phone, and it eventually got sorted.

I then had 2 visits from the manager of another store practically begging me to buy from them again and offering all sorts of discounts. I told him I wouldn't have another SCS suite if they paid me to take it, because the after sales service was not only non existant, but the staff were outright liars.

We then bought one from Harveys which we had to wait 12 weeks for, and spent that time sitting on a mattress and cushions on the living room floor. But 10 years later the harveys suite still looks as good as new.

Your experience is not what should be expected from a quality suite!  These Stores do not do themselves any favours by such poor Customer Relations.

Glad to hear you found a good one from Harveys.

If it is of any use to you we use DFS, Furniture Village and others to find the suite we like and then we go to a local upholsterer with pictures of what we want and he makes it for us.

We saved nearly £500.00 over the cost of our 3 piece suite last time (about 4 years ago) and we have a hand made suite of fantastic quality which was made by a local craftsman to a level of quality that the others can only dream about.

And we have done our bit to support a local tradesman.  Added advantage is that if we ever have a problem we can speak to the man who made it anytime.
