Daughter is texting like fury at the moment. Now she is on benefits with Sproglet BUT decided it wasn't good enough and has been doing a college course and volunteering to work 10 hours a week to cover the work experience part. Her plan was to do the next level next year and up her "working" hours to 15. College has just pulled all funding for next years' level 3 courses - the one college told her she needs to get a good chance of a job!!!!!!!! What am I going to do Mu-um is wailing down the phone!! If she managed to get a paying job it would probably be about the 10 hours and she is worried she'd have to pay childminding etc and be worse off than not working.
Is everything always going to be a crisis in her life?

Suspect that's shorthand for 'howsabout you look after your lovely grandaughter for free mum while you're working,' but I may be being mean. Yes it will all be a crisis for a few years yet if she's the age I think she is. Revenge comes when sproglet is older and doing it to her while you maintain straight face. (((oldest grandaughter)))

It's a life sentence, I fear: I'm 40 in June and my parents still worry obsessively about me - few will forget the time my father called the police to check I was OK because I hadn't called home for a week... (The community support officer was really nice about it, but I was bloomin' mortified!)

Sorry - misread your original post: it works the other way too - who did I call when I was stuck in foreign parts with malaria, typhoid and cholera at the same time? Yup 🙂 Mind you, I think if you're married, you've got someone closer to moan at - find her a nice partner, and she'll back off on you!
(And I don't know what she's studying for, but if it's something they do degrees in, suggest she looks at that - universities, especially civic ones that used to be polys, accept different qualifications from mature applicants: some just ask for an essay etc rather than formal qualifications. Yes, she'll need to take out loans - but if she's currently on benefits, she's qualify for a much larger grant to loan ratio, plus an allowance for childcare etc and other things from her LEA, and also be able to benefit from grants and bursaries from the institution direct...)

don't know the amount of hours you have to do to qualify but has she looked into working /child tax credits? you can put figures into a form on the tax site and it will give you a rough idea what if anything you get

As far as i can remember, you need to work 16 hours or more to qualify for tax/child tax credits.. she would get help with child care.. and free prescriptions etc.. but would have to pay most of her rent/council tax...

Yep, we will look into the situation which may not be a situation. She spent a good hour texting and breaking my concentration(if one doesn't respond she just rings and rings the house phone which i really cannot turn off) whilst i was entering up the VAT bill info!. It was a crisis. It may not be a crisis as she overheard a conversation at lunchtime.!!!!
Todays crisis, which Grandma was requested to sort, was Sproglet getting dressed ready to go out in her onesie(on top of pyjamas). Grandma, not being quite compos mentos(one coffee just doesn't hack it anymore) told the child she would take her to the Library this morning if she got dressed nicely. Hmm, last heard Sproglet was busy putting her knickers on - on top of the onesie!!!!!!!!!!!! As i said another crisis that I really didn't need.
Never mind, suppose it is easier than son who is currently stressing about the situation in the Ukraine and N Korea's leader who appears to be wearing the same coat as him so can he have a new coat please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just needed to vent. Thank you
