Is it just me

Honestly, I am about ready to scream. On our front door we have a sign saying, Please do not put leaflets/charity bags/free papers in our door, it also says no cold callers religious/salesmen etc.. So to me its pretty obvious we do not want junk mail or uninvited people who always call at dinner time or at some other inconvenient time.  But they seem unable to read or understand plain English.  So this is since Thursday last week.. 4 Pizza leaflets (2 from the same company on different days, 2 taxi cards, 3 charity bags (which are not charity bags but scams) 1 free newspaper (4 days after its publication) 1 sponsor form, 1 Ikea catalogue, 1 chicken take away menu, 1 Chinese take away menu, 1 fish & chips take away menu. 1 Virgin Internet leaflet. 1 building company leaflet (Travellers) 1 tree surgeon leaflet.  In addition to this, Building company cold caller who tried to stick his foot in the door to stop me closing it, 1 charity collector (with no ID) 1 window salesman (despite us clearly having new windows and doors). Oh yes and this morning the obligatory JW  (no offence but I am not in the slightest bit interested in your religion or having you shoving another mountain of leaflets at me.  Grrrrrrrrrrr.

I know its no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but honestly it drives me mad,  we pay council tax to take away our rubbish so we are paying for the privilege of getting rid of rubbish that we never asked for in the first place.

Sorry for the rant. And Breathe.....

I agree but i don't have a sign up or anyting so i dont have the right to moan really. The takeaway menus dont bother me its the charity sales people that want me to start at direct debit at 9 o'clock at night that annoy me

Re: Is it just me

oh yes me too.  I understand they need donations but by calling late at night just irritates people. If I am honest, because of the numerous doorstep scams now I don't donate  or sign up to anything at the door.

Re: Is it just me

You will find that a lot of the junk mail is delivered by your postman with your mail

They get paid extra to do it.

Re: Is it just me

Oh yes I know, but our postie chucks mine straight in the recycle bin as he walks past because I told him if he puts he through the door I will give it back to him. He knows us too well, he has been coming to us for years and is very nice. We look after him, when its cold I make him a hot chocolate to have on his rounds.

Re: Is it just me

We have a sign on our front door saying that we don't want cold callers.  We've not had any for a while but the last one said that we were out of order for pointing the sign out to him!!! What a cheeky beggar.  It doesn't there.  This person said that local councillors and prospective MP's are are cold callers just before any elections.  Just what he thinks politicians are selling is anyone's guess.  When they come the first words they say are 'How are you today?'  I always say 'You tell me what you're selling and I'll tell you how I am'  It is really annoying.

BTW, it is illegal for cold callers to knock at the door and they can be reported to trading standards.

Re: Is it just me

I know, it's like being on the telephone preference service - heaven knows why we pay for that as

we still get nuisance calls, some of which, having rung you up at an inconvenient time, don't bother

to speak when you've stopped whatever you are doing to answer the phone!

We get so much rubbish through the letterbox or even just thrown on the path, I feel like just putting

a recycling bag on the door handle and say put it in there and cut out the middleman!  Seriously though,

all the environmental damage that occurs through these endless leaflets is ridiculous and are there

really people who, if they want something done to their house, will wait for some unknown pain in the

bum to turn up on their doorstep to harass them into having it done?  Really?  When we want something

done we take time to research the best people to do it and arrange it.

I feel for elderly people who often take time to get up to the door or phone and are then greeted with

these nuisances.  Some people can become quite un-nerved by cold callers too.

We had two homeware catalogues put through the door a few weeks back.  Some bloke came back to

collect one and hubby had put it in the recycling which had been collected.  The bloke was incredulous

but hubby said if you don't want the catalogue and give it to us, what are you coming asking for it back for?

If you do want it, why give it to us in the first place?!!

Re: Is it just me

Lol, I did. Then rang the elderly neighbour and told her not to open the door. He came from the travelling kind and won't take no for an answer. I just got another leaflet, clothing collection this time, not for charity. I called the guy back and asked why he had put it through the door when asked not too, his reply began with an F and ended with an F. Charming.

Re: Is it just me

How rude Harrydog, honestly, I don't know what's happened with society that some

people just do not care a toss about anybody but themselves.  These people certainly

have no morals, no scruples whatsoever if they cannot respect others' wishes not to receive all

this rubbish and are then mouthy to those who dare complain.

I often feel like rigging up a bucket of water over the door to get them!

Re: Is it just me

I know, lol, a bit like those who defend themselves and in so doing become the criminals

'cos the real criminal gets injured (oh dear) or sues the victim for "distressing" them or

something ridiculous!  Nobody seems to think about the fact they weren't supposed to be

doing whatever it was in the first place!

Our eldst son is, to put it rather more midly than it is, rather wayward.  No teaching from us

that way, he chooses to hang about with the undesirables of society and believes that the

world owes him.  He hasn't paid a fare on public transport for what must be five years now.

He gets caught, issued with penalties, never pays them, gets called to court, doesn't turn up,

gets recalled, the order is increased, he doesn't conform to it..... you get the picture?  In his

eyes he knows nothing gets done so he will carry on.  Infuriating in our eyes, why should

some of society pay for the wayward lives of those who know they can wriggle out of any

responsibility?  He'll never change and, sadly, he is only a tiny drop in the ocean when it

comes to these types.

I'm all for giving people another chance if they break the law once, maybe twice, but if they

persist in doing it then they should have a harsher punishment, one that makes them think

before doing it again.  Surely it would help more people like that as more would think about

living their life less criminally, less selfishly and get off their sorry butts and contribute to

society.  They'd get much more out of it too.

Re: Is it just me

Aww sorry for your wayward son. It appears to me that no matter how well you have been bought up or how much your parents have tried to do, some people just don't give a damn about anyone or anything. The world owes them a living. The repeat offenders get away with it and the one time person gets the harshest of punishment.

Re: Is it just me

We are ex directory so dont answer the phone unless its a number we recognise if it is someone important they will leave a message or ring our mobile. We dont answer the door to cold callers they soon get bored of the digs barking. And the rubbish that comes through the letterbox goes straight in the bag we keep in the hall for recycling.
I did answer the phone over the weekend to someone yet again saying they were from windows and did I know my computer was broken. I just said of course you are and put the phone down.

Re: Is it just me

The leaflets end up in the recycling box, but I'll have a quick flick through in case there are any vouchers of use.

The charity collection bags get kept  - I use them for kitchen bin liners unless I have charity collection stuff to put in them
