If you regularly travel by train with another person

you might be interested in the new 2 together railcard. Gets you a 1/3 off for 2 named people aged over 16. You can also buy it with T***o clubcard vouchers.

We sometimes go to Liverpool on the train.  As both my mum and I have bus passes and we live on Merseyside, we can use the trains anywhere on Merseyside free of charge with the bus passes.

Books, I didn't know that you're on Merseyside too  - give me a shout when you come in to town next, and I'll treat you to tea and cake 🙂

I resent (childish I know) the two together rail pass: everything is geared towards people with partners (or people who are sociable!)  - two for one meals in pubs, two for one entry at exhibitions, two for one travel on trains.  Us singletons (or just those of us who live alone) already have it more expensive than those who don't - I'm thinking of petitioning the government for a single person's allowance 😄  (Sorry: I've been doing my accounts this morning, which is why I am a bit bitter!)

All of that said - it is a good offer if you have someone you travel with a lot, and on a longer journey, you get your money back immediately in the saving, especially if, like me, you oftne can't book ahead and have to pay the standard price at the station.  You even get the dicount on already discounted tickets, though, so it's well worth it imo.

I dont travel by rail as i dont like trains but that is a really good idea. Rail travel is expensive for working people and others and it cuts the cost to share this idea!!Woman Happy

I agree. I am fed up with all the twoor three for a cheaper price on things. I only want ONE! so I end up paying more. I can't always freeze or store the extra items so I don't think it's fair.

If you regularly travel by train with another person

I've bought it because I travel with my daughter and now she's 16 she's classed as an adult so I can no longer use a friends and family card. I resent the fact that 16 year olds have to pay adult fares when most are still in school and therefore not earning (apart from small pocket money jobs).

Bryn, if she's still in school, is she not then eligible for a Young Person's Railcard?  (Though that wouldn't help if you're travelling with her - but it would if she was alone)

You can't use them before 9, I don't think, but a lot of companies offer special term time deals for transport for school children and students (at least, they do up here) but the rest of the time, it's fine.  I think you just need to prove you're under 25 (?) with ID, and you can get them at the station.

If you're in education as a mature student, you are also eligible, but I think you need to show both your student ID and have it stamped by your college etc

I think all railcards are well-worth it if you use the train - for £30 or whatever they are, with the price of rail fares, you can get it back in no time.

Ooops- I meant, it wouldn't help you if you were travelling with her (obviously, she could use her 16-25 whoever she's travelling with :-D) - wish there was an edit button... well, there probably is, it's just I can't find it!
