He's home and he didn't tell his daughter and will keep it from her. No point in frightening her, she's only nine. It's a very rare occurrance so hopefully it won't happen again.
The farmer didn't really have a choice, not if he wanted the aircraft out of his field. I suppose he would be well compensated for loss of crops.
It wasn't my son who flew it out though, it would be either the mechanic or the owner I suppose.

I got it wrong - I assumed it was his own aeroplane.

So, he's taken her back by road because it was cloudy earlier. That's about 8 hours driving which is much more dangerous really!!

What great offence have I caused you that you want me to "nugger" off back to the Round Table?? I assumed it was his own private aircraft in which he had a very close shave. Why shouldn't I? I further commented on how commendable his attitude was maintaining close contact with his daughter? What was offensive about that? CG certainly took no offence, and is quite capable of correcting me if she so wishes, so why do you champion her cause?
Is that what you want - do you want me to "nugger" off back to the Round Table and disappear from the scene for all eternity?
If I have personally caused you such great offence REPORT ME TO THE MODERATORS!
YOU are the one who has caused ME great offence! Thus said, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and no way would I have the audacity to tell anybody to "Nugger off."

Towry,
People seldom put my nose out of joint. As I said everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but where criticism is levelled at me (in my opinion unjustifiably) I find myself being forced to defend myself. The comments I made on the previous page were that he had an exceedingly luck escape and when somebody spoke of the great distance he needed to travel to keep in contact with his daughter I agreed to it being a highly commendable attitude to take. If he had to make a controlled emergency landing and is photographed in front of the aircraft, I, like many others assumed him to be a man of affluence with his own aeroplane. As the last person on this thread pointed out, it would have made no difference whether or not it was his aircraft - he had a very lucky escape - at no time did I "rant" I merely mentioned I had worked on light aircraft many years ago on the Lycoming engines, so I do know a bit about flying. I wasn't showing off, but merely reminiscing about times past.
Might I suggest we now draw a line under this whole thing. As I said everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and I am sorry if I have caused you any upset. Yours, Fred..

very true, why anyone would send a private email (they would have to have your email addy to do this & surely you'd be able to trace thenm via thiers)) is beyond me. If people can't accept others opinions without button pushing & emailing then probably a public forum with differing opinions is not the place for them

Isaac Newton - 'Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy'. When I was a very young woman one of my mentors taught me that.
I agree with Gina. And I've been here before with people button pushing, it's cowardice, imo.
What If I had not pointed out the reason for the flights in the first place? I have a vested interest in the young man's reasons for his flying, having brought up a boy/young man whose father could have afforded to buy a plane and then some and neglected his child appallingly - something my son resents to this day and he will be 31 in August. That is why I was riled. And there is no need, for civility itself, TO SHOUT AT PEOPLE.
And, by the way, I'm dying here, day by day, maybe for 2 years or 5 or 10. In the end none of this matters, except for understanding, generosity and kindness. Which cost nowt.
