Picked my son up from Air Cadets last night. He got into the car with a grin as big as the Cheshire Cat and then told me he had passed, and been presented with, his bronze certificate for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. It took him about a year to get so he is on very happy teenager.

Congratulations to him.
It's a pity a few more teenagers don't have the guts, determination and self respect needed to do something like that, rather than hang about on street corners causing trouble!
What a sour old woman I'm turning into!!!:_|

Thankfully my boy does not have the mentality to hang around with "the badduns". He has always been a hard worker and loves his school. In fact, since he started school at the age of four (and he is now 15) he has only ever had a week off with chicken pox. He left his High School last year as one of only three who achieved 100% attendance certificate over three years and he has been at his present school without a day off. He would have to be dead not to attend LOL.
I have been behind him with Cadets and DOE as it is important for his CV not only to put on qualifications obtained at school but also other things he has done to show prospective employees that he is the one to employ.
He is due home to school any minute now....hope his head has got too big today LOL

congrats to your son. Mine was in the air cadets, but never had the chance to do the awards.
I can't help thinking, and PLEASE don't start the negatives! that if more schools did these sort of things, it WOULD keep some of the kids, who wanted to, busy and off the streets.

I agree Gates. That would be such a good idea.
