Just made OH some custard for his tea, served it up and then went back into the kitchen and went to put the custard powder back in the cupboard when I spied the Best before date, 17th November 2011. Oopsie Daisy. Should I tell him?

See if he's ill all night. If he's not ill, tell him. If he is ill, don't tell him, and bin the evidence!

Well it's all gone, he wasn't impressed, there was no colour to it and no taste, but I did tell him, not impressed not because it was out of date but the fact it was still in the cupboard after all this time. I am usually very good with dates, oh well

Me too.
I used to check for out of date stuff regularly but these days I can't be bothered, so if I find something that I want to use and it's out of date, I just either use it or bin it, depending on what it is. Most things these days seem to have so many preservatives in them that I guess they'll last until the next millenium.

Update, he is still alive and kicking and moaning how I tried to poison him.
I think most dates are a judgement call and I don't normally bother if it is a few months if it hasn't been opened,
