There are nine rooms in my house, but as I live alone, I only want heating on in two of them (the lounge and my bedroom)
My choices are:
Turning the radiators off on seven of them, leaving just two to heat up
OR
switching the central heating off altogether, and just have electric plug in radiators in those two rooms (which I have here)
Which would be the cheapest to run please?
The boiler firing up for two radiators seems a waste, but then are the plug in radiators expensive to run?
I know it's not easy to answer, but I'd appreciate your views 🙂
Thanks folks!

I would advise turning the radiators in the other rooms if not off down low enough to just keep the chill off the rooms. I do believe those plug in electric heaters if left on for any length of time can be quite expensive to run.

I have nine rooms too & I live alone. I have thermostats on all my radiators & they are turned down, not off, in the spare bedrooms. I would be worried about damp if they were off. My bedroom & the landing they are set to be warm but not hot. Downstairs they are on full when the heating is on. Remember once the house is cold it takes more energy to get it warm again. Electric radiators are expensive to run. Having the heating on these days is a luxury but I am not going to get cold. I wear extra jumpers & have a quilt over my legs too. It's been on for two hours this evening.

Thank you both 🙂
IL2P - My heating hasn't been on yet - being down south it hasn't got really cold yet.
Last year I didn't put the heating on at all as the boiler stopped working, and at that time, I couldn't afford to get it sorted. I managed to keep warm by wearing two dressing gowns and being under throws when watching tv etc.

I am on the south coast! lol It's only the fourth time I have had it on this winter. Most times an hour will do but I have been sitting about making cards today & got really cold so let myself have two hours! I have a room thermometer free from Age UK so I cn check the air temp. It was 18 when I gave in so not really cold but I hadn't been moving around to warm up. I need to be careful with my gas usage this year as it's gone up such a lot.

As people have said, keep all the radiators in unused rooms on low, not just to keep damp off (condensation settles in a cold room and you will get black mould) but to avoid bits of the central heating system and other pipes freezing if it gets really cold.
When my heating packed up early this year I had to get little oil-filled radiators, and a convector - and believe me, they are *bleepity* *bleepity* *bleep* expensive to run.
