Immobile at the moment - twisted my right knee in the garden, so hobblong around on crutches. Going down the stairs is a precarious operation. Anyway, reached the bottom of the stairs and looked up - my daughter had very carefully done an 18" square cross-stitch with the words "Happy Father's Day - the best Dad in the world" complete with a boating scene. I'd completely forgotten about it, but there it was complete with three bottles of Newcastle Brown and a couple of other gifts. Maybe because I'd had a bad night, but I felt raw emotion flow through me. No words were necessary - Id wanted a boy, but I have a girl in a million. I'm still choked up now.

Thanks - the knee is bad enough to prevent me from photographing and downloading a further 80 items. Daughter told me to use her camera, but I'm too knocked out. It'll have to wait until next time. I keep nodding off. It's a weakness in my right knee. I had Baker's Cyst, a very severe swelling that prevents you from moving your leg. the Christmas before last which kept me off work for two weeks. The trouble was, when I got back, people at work were giving me the thumb's upsaying "Yep, well done Fred. Make sure the *bleep*'s pay you" as if I was swinging a lead! My last year was steeped in controversy where I should have been on a paid four day working week but wasn't because a new broom came in and decided to run things differently so everyone assumed I was skinning a cat by other means. Some people could, but I coudn't - I've always played a very straight bat.

Well this is a straight weakness - osteoarthritis where the joints are beginning to get jagged. They spoke of having some form of an operation, with them reshaping the bone etc. but advised me against me having it, stating I would be off my feet for about three months! No, this is a small cross to bear - I'll be running around like a seven year-old in less than a week.
Baker's Cyst it totally different - it is a sudden lump of musccle tissue which will come totally unannounced in the shape and size of a ping pong ball directly behind the back of the knee preventing you from moving it. Nobody really knows what causes it. Unlike osteoarthritis it is not particularly painful, but is totally disabilitating - you just cannot move your knee and it lasts for about two weeks. After I returned the crutches to the hospital I went straight over to Argos and bought a pair. They were only £25.00 and are exactly the same as those supplied by the hospital - ten times easier than a walking stick, and the guarantee you a seat on any bus!

My daughter asked me quite innocently once, when Mother's Day was.
"Nine months after Father's Day!" I replied.
"Very clever." She groaned, rolling her eyes.
A colleague took his daughter to Disney World in Florida when she was about nine. She was looking at all the Disney paraphernaliaand saw a rubber.
How much are your rubbers?" She asked.
"Oh, I'm sorry Honey. We don't sell rubbers. You need a drug store for that..."
"Dad, what does she mean?"
"Never mind - wee'll get it at the next shop!" He replied, yanking her arm. He shook his head in disbelief.

I have just come back from seeing my parents and delivering my dads fathers day card, came away with more than I went with as usually, strawberries, cucumber, a bottle brush plant and some small pepper plants.
Hope you have a good day Fred.
