HEALTH CHECK

Im having a free health check on friday. Its a new thing in our surgery for over 40s. Do your cholestrol and i have never had that done so thats good. They should do these things to keep an eye on everything. i will be up for my Mammogram next year as i will be 50 i suppose. im very good with having smears and that done , i cannot understand women who do not have them done. you have to give yourself a fighting chance nowadays where your health is concerned.

HEALTH CHECK

Had my first mamagram last year (52) and always have my smears done when called, haven't been called in for health check though,

I don't go very often but when I went to see doc about hot flushes he did do blood pressure but thats all, just gave me HRT (which I haven't taken as its only hot flushes and I didn't like the side effects mentioned)

I suppose each area and surgery is different.

Yes i think  they can vary but they should all have one set practice method really where regular things are required or known health worry areas. For different ages too i suppose. All Health checks should be offered to everyone no matter where they live.

HEALTH CHECK

At our GP's surgery, they ask all the over 50's to go in for yearly health checks and I think that it is a brilliant idea.  It was only when I went for one that I found out that my cholesterol was high.

HEALTH CHECK

Ours started fairly recently.  I was called in just before last Christmas and have been taking blood pressure pills ever since. I was called in a couple of weeks ago for a 'medication revue'.  It did surprise me that I was put on three different pills daily and they never checked on whether they were doing any good whatsoever for nine months.!  As it was, I knew they were because I monitor my blood pressure on a machine at home whenever I think about it, plus, I had an op in April and they obviously took my blood pressure many times.

HEALTH CHECK

I had one a few months ago and was told to ring in a couple of weeks later for the results.....

Completely slipped my mind ( memory loss was not one of the criteria ) ......I expect if there was a problem they would have contacted me .........

HEALTH CHECK

Yes I was called for a health check earlier this year. It was the area health authority that dealt with it. I think it's a good idea too. Also had my first mamogram about 2.5 years ago (am now 50). I have the smears too, always makes me laugh the way the letter is worded "you're invited for a smear test" Smiley Happy

But an excellent service gratefully received.

HEALTH CHECK

Never been called for a health check, our GP surgery checks my BP, weight etc once a year if I have an app, but never been offered one and I am 52. I had a breast scan when I was 49 and will not another until I am 54! Over 5 years ago I had a mirena put in and I had a smear done back a couple of months but I had to remind them! I was informed that smears are now every 5 years.

HEALTH CHECK

Been for my health check today and it was interesting. I am overweight although i knew that. It was all about Cardio Vascular health and your family history of it. I have to have a fsting blood test for Diabetes as i am in the overweight catagory. My cholestrol was fine and i have quite high readings for the fat busting thingy that sort of hoovers fat up so she said. I need to do bit more exercise aswell. all in all not as bad as i thought but it makes you think ahead and hits it home the things you are at risk of. The two best things i have done to help my health is too stop drinking and smoking so i am proud of myself there. Bit more work to do though. Its a good thing though.

I thought you had to have a fasting blood test for Cholesterol? How do they test it? Don't think I have ever had mine tested.

I am like you overweight, i need to do more exercise too but I bad knee probs and its stops me from doing anything. I do not smoke or drink (cannot afford to anyway)!. I had the blood test which checks everything like diabetes and it came back fine.

As you get older it gets harder!! (that is what the GP said). We have a history of heart problems in the family my mum died when she was 69, my nephew was 26. It goes back generations as it was my mum's mum then it missed a generation then it affected my mum, then missed a generation again then it was my nephew who dies 3 years. So if it works the way it did it will be my grandchild's children who will be affected. (hopefully not).

What is this fat busting thingy then????

HEALTH CHECK

I had a fasting cholesterol test years ago but the one last December was't fasting. It was ok both times.  I'm convinced it's much more to do with your genes than your diet!  Hubby's is ok too and he has a very bad diet as in cheese and eggs and when we had goats he drank full cream goat's milk on his cornflakes and in his tea all day.  I ate chocolate and meat and pies etc, yet we were both ok.  All my slimmer healthier friends are on statins!

I had a diabetes test just last week and that was just testing a urine sample with a stick.  She said that would show any kidney disease or infection and I'm not sure if she said liver too.

HEALTH CHECK

When I had my health check, the cholestoral test was just a pin **bleep** of blood put in a device that gave the reading. I didn't fast.

OH has an annual cholestoral test and always has to fast.

Maybe in the health check, if the reading is high, you then have to have another more accurate test by fasting - I don't know, just guessing.

HEALTH CHECK

I had mine done in a machine with a pinprick of blood right there and then. I have not got anything in my family with heart problems and so forth so maybe if it comes out high, or your in a higher risk if your family have it , maybe you then have to have a fasting one. Im not sure about that.

HEALTH CHECK

When the test is done they do the total cholesterol, mine was 6.3mmol/L. Then she works out HDL Cholestorel which she told me was something in your body that hoovers the fat up so to speak and mine was quite a lot at 2.2mmol/L. then from those two she works out somehow your actual cholesterol ratio and mine was 2.9 which is ok.
