Halloween will be coming up and the shops seem to get more themed things in every year. I see the dummies wearing their gruesome outfits that people can hire. I went to a Halloween party once and dressed up in a Black floaty dress and had my face painted like a CAT!!!!!. Ha ha such fun. I remember the fun we had as a child but wondered what others think of this season?. Do you go to parties?, or have parties of your own ( those with children). As long as its kept light and fun and not grizzly i think its ok. I used to buy sweets for trick or treaters but now live in flats where they do not come in so much. I know its not everyones thing but some enjoy it.
we never celebrated halloween as such, it was known as duck apple night in our house. We had apples tied on a string hanging from the ceiling and you kept your hands behind your back and had to try to bite the apple. We ducked for them in the washing up bowl full of water! We ate chestnuts that had roasted on the ash pan in the coal fire.
Trick or treating wasn't popular then (early 60's) but we had loads of fun.
My children never did it, I don't think it was so well known in the 70s. My grandchildren don't go trick or treating because they live where there are no pavements or streetlights, but they always have a party. The children one day and the adults one evening. They dress up and have pumokins and lanterns and spooky decorations.
I don't think any children are allowed to go to strangers houses or without adults with them these days. I think most of the visits are pre-arranged too.
i am split down the middle
on one side i do like haloween as such and love spending the day with my daughter carving pumpkins and halloween parties are ok.
but
trick or treat is a no as far as i am concerned its dangerouse and an american import that ought to go back thier.
you are always going to get teenagers spoiling it and being horrible.

It is getting more and more Americanized and some older youngsters make it gruesome and the gruesome outfits they come up with now are just frightening. If its kept to the traditional Witches, Goblins, Pumpkins then its not too bad. We dont really want Freddie Kruger, mummies, nurses with blood all over the costumes and chainsaws!!!!!!!!. NO NO NO NO NO. Thats not Halloween thats FRIGHT NIGHT!!!!. A few bats here and then and a spooky wooo hoooo noise LOL and thats that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
