Great train robbery (on TV)

Did anybody else watch this programme. Over two nights...the robbers tale and the coppers tale (Wednesday and Thursday)

I thought it was absolutely brilliantly written and acted and did not "glamourise" this crime.

I have to congratulate the BBC. Glad it was on the BBC as I hate certain programmes being broken up with the adverts.

Remember - it takes 17 muscles to smile and 44 muscles to frown - SO KEEP SMILING 🙂

Yes, Hubby watched it, and I came in towards the end.  He thought it was very good too.

OH watched it too whilst I dozed through it.  Seemed well balanced and informative.  One was very much told what the press and powers wanted one to be told back then(and I was only 9!).

As at the time I felt indignation at the lack of justice in the sentencing.  They stole MONEY, they clobbered people but didn't go out to kill, if they had they would have been put away for life, which even then carried a shorter mandatory term than they received!.Mind you it is the "life"sentence that could do with extending.

About time they showed the "St Trinians version - now that was funny.

Yes, I watched it,brilliant acting, it's what the BBC are so good at.

I can remember when it happened at the time.

There was some thought that the sentences were quite long but you have to remember it was a big robbery, nothing like it had ever happened before, so It's possible the sentences were quite harsh as a deterrent for anyone else who thought they might give it a go! Also the train driver never really recovered and died a few years later. They also attacked the postal sorting chaps so not exactly without physical violence.

We've swung the other way these days with very lenient sentences for just about everything.

Couldn't agree more. There is no deterrent these days.
