Going the extra mile?

When selling stuff on eBay I always type in my signature - "going the extra mile is standard" and abide by it.  On a couple of occasions I have actually taken this a step further.  In one particular case I had to send something to Russia, and was worried about how long it would take, and the cost which, I assumed would have been far more than whay the payer would have been prepared to pay.  The postage came to a lot more than the item!  To my surprise this lady wrote back to say that she was prepared to pay the amount quoted, although she got the price totally mixed up.  

To be on the safe side I went into the ttranslater in Google and copied word for word what came out and then sent her an email retyped..  I got back an email thanking me for my breakdown etc.  When I replied, complimenting her on her grasp of the English language she replied with a hand typed smiley ( lol) that she cheated - she too used a translater!  We then entered into a profound conversation about the fact that she had visited the Tower of London, right next to my building at work, and kept up this pen friendship for several weeks, while I gave her updates on how her items were progressing.  Sadly they came to a gradual and natural close.

The same thing happened when somebody wanted an item posted to Paris.  Not knowing how good their English is, I make a point of always replying in their native language.  In this case the person wrote back and said: "Thanks, but there's no need to reply in French - i was raised in Leeds!"  Smiley LOL

 

Do others reply in the buyer's native language just to be on the safe side?  Some may see it as superflous, but in my way of thinking, it shows the buyer that you are, in fact  "Going the extra mile".
