Yesterday went to a cash machine to withdraw some money.
Entered my details and waited for the cash. Took my card out but no cash came out!! Waited and waited - lots of noise from the machine then it went into shut down/maintenance mode!
Still no cash.
Rang the bank whilst still standing by the machine and they said they would check the fault log and if proved give me my money back.
Today £150 came out of my account 😞
Have been told it may take up to 2 weeks to get the money back in my account.
Has anyone experienced any similar problems with cash machines. Did it get sorted ok? I'm a bit fed up about this really but I suppose faults happen sometimes.

this happened to a girl i work with a month ago and she literally works from hand to mouth on a monthly basis and it took her nearly 3 weeks to get her money back and she had to beg and borrow money to feed herself and her son.:-(
i think this is disgusting as the bank must know on a daily basis if there machines are right.i am sure they would be quicker if it was spitting out to much money.X-(

where was the machine?
i think the non bank building machines are run by a firm and they have to get the info from them probably with video recording evidence
so identifying the machine and the details probably takes the time
its not unknown and it does seem to take them ages to sort 😞
i try not to use machines outside branches etc, and am lucky with my bank that i can use it in the PO too

It was a Co-op bank machine outside the Co-op supermarket in Knebworth.
Cookie - its not good that it took your friend so long to get the money back 😞

Yes, it happened to my OH a couple of months ago. His bank (Nationwide) told him the same thing. It took a couple of weeks, but he did get his money back ok.

That's interesting Cookie! I might stop using that one now and go to the Barclays one just round the corner. The co-op one always looks a bit cranky to me - you can never see the screen if the sun is out and it has blotches on parts of the screen, looks a bit unkempt! I was a bit concerned when it went to a 'Windows' pc screen when the banking screen crashed! I mean Im not techie in the least but its worried me more than a bit.

Oh thats good to hear mjc. I was rather freaked when it happened like I thought the bank would not believe me that I had not got the money!!

Couple of points here:
1) A 2 - 3 week wait for a refund in these circumstances is quite normal.
2) Virtually all machinery runs on Windows, in many cases quite a surprisingly vintage version, even on recent builds! Even the on board computers on many of the trains in this country that have been built in the last few years use versions of Windows that would be considered miles out of date for use on a PC.

oh that is very interesting to know Peter I thought I was seeing things when a rather vintage looking Windows screen came up on the cash machine!!
