Katie, my little female greyhound doesn't like fireworks. I found that a scarf and a pair of earmuffs I adapted to fit her worked a treat.

Jane, you should go, definately. It is an amazingly beautiful city, with so much to see. It is also such a short journey too, only 1.5hr flight, so you are there in no time at all.

Polly - I am quite lucky as I speak french and german and have enough Italian to get by. I've always tended to stick to countries where I speak the lingo just incase there is some type of medical emergency etc. I know my friend would be there and obviously speaks the lingo but I'm just the biggest wimp known to man and spend all my time putting myself off by thinking of every possible thing that could go wrong.

Most people in the CZ republic speak excellent English, also many are fluent in german too.. many english people go over there for medical treatment (dental, cosmetic etc), as it is better and cheaper than in the UK, so their medical teams will also be fluent in English too, so I can honestly say you would have no worries on that score.

My ex bf's parents didnt speak a word of Czech when his fathers job meant a transfer from the UK to Prague, but they soon settled in, and its very easy to pick up the language too.

All restaurants have english menus, and because of the increase in british people going there as tourists, you would be hard pushed to find anyone who doesnt speak english in Prague itself.
